Hi

A friend is wanting a basic home PC for pretty much just Internet, photo storage/printing, etc.

Any suggestions? Max budget is £300.

Thanks!

Steve

Mike, the Link shows error ...
[mod]#4
Works for me edi but then I have set some cookies.
Try going to the main home page and entering the ecode value just as I posted it, that will get you there.
Remember to reduce the warranty to minimum and buy via Quidco for best savings.

No monitor required, so that makes it a little easier...but I'm not sure how to find this deal, can you advise further?
[mod]#6
Asuuming that my link takes you to the main home Dell page, scroll down and on the right hand side you will see 2 boxes to enter ecode data into
Enter the E-value code for the advertised system that interests you

Put 307 in the first and D073C5at in the second and hit return or the blue arrow.
That takes you to the deal above.

307-D073C1 (Home site) - £259 delivered
Intel® Celeron® D 336 Processor (2.80GHz, 533MHz, 256k cache)
Genuine Windows® XP Home Edition, SP2 (incl Symantec PC Restore Recovery)
512MB Dual Channel DDR2 533MHz [2x256] Memory
80GB 7200rpm SATA Hard Drive
16x DVD-ROM Drive
No Security/Anti-Virus Protection
Integrated Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 900
No Monitor
Integrated 2.0 Channel High Definition Audio

No monitor with this one but no Avirus free either, you would be better off buying the more expensive one and selling the monitor to a friend for say £65

No Security/Anti-Virus Protection
Integrated Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 900
No Monitor
Integrated 2.0 Channel High Definition Audio

How are you getting those prices? 307-D073C1 is £353 for me?!
#9
If you really want a basic PC, you would atruggle to beat this offer :-

http://www.misco.co.uk/productinform...~WW~/index.htm

NOTE No OS - why not instal Linux? - should be fine for Internet use, and photo storage/printing. No monitor, CD-RW only (no DVD). Don't know delivery cost.

MOD EDIT - removed affiliate link
#10
Oh, also, which system were you referring to when saying about getting the monitor to sell?
#11
Are you sure you are changing the warranty to a minimum in the spec - change it to 90 day collect and return for example, i think that's what's happening.

The first one Mike posted in this thread is the only one that comes with a monitor, so he must have meant that one.
#13
Just using the default settings...I'll try again but sure everything was set to 'free' (or no additional cost).
#15
Check the box for 90 day collect and return option.
#16
Or this link from Mike's above recommendation; http://configure.euro.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?cs=ukdhs1&kc=307&oc=D073C5b&x=10&y=9

Select No service upgrade for 90 day collect and return option again [you still have a 12 month warranty with it].
#17
Yes, Ray's link works Greenfeld, just remnove the warranty to get the lower price. Thanks Ray. I have trouble with those Dell links!
[mod]#18
307-D073C5at is the one with monitor. Go to that numbers page and scroll down till you get to
Cover It with Dell Support Services
and select
No service upgrade selected - 90 Day Collect and Return service only [subtract £35.25]
to get the lowest price but do bear in mind that this gives you just 90 days of collect/return warranty at dells cost on both base and monitor, after that the next 9 months of the warranty will require you to pay to return it to dell for repair.

Hehe were are at it again....I'm off to work soon so this thread will be all yours Emma and Ray ;)

I'm selling my PC, am I allowed to do that in this THREAD? :P Although I'd be looking for about 350, it is way better than anything listed :P
#24
I think you must put your PC in the For Sale or Trade section....so lets see what you have to offer???

Anybody know about Iqon PCs? Tesco seem to have a decent one for £299 with monitor, printer, etc.
#28
I know they are made by Philips in the South of Ireland greenfeld. I have had an iqon laptop for three years, I'm please with it. I used to sell a lot of the PC packages, and I think they are grand.
