Beginner's Electric Guitar/Guitar Package

I've never played the guitar before and was looking to get hold of one at the lower end of the budget and give it a go.

Having handled both acoustic and electric guitars before Ithink I'd prefer an electric due to size, although others may have different advice.

I'm looking for advice on some reasonable priced models for the beginner or possibly a package (guitar, amp, stand, etc.) probably around £100-£150 although there is some flexibility.

Thanks for any help.

If you go into stores at the moment and then um and ah, they will probably throw in stuff like stands, plectrums, tuners. They only cost around £10 for the lot. Plus you can try a few out. It really is down to personal taste, the guy in the shop may rattle on for hours about which you should get but if i doesnt appeal then get whatever you like!

Strats are obviously popular starters as are SG's (if you like the style). both tend to keep their tuning pretty well.

I bought my son one for christmas and was amazed how good it was. The amp runs on a 9v battery but is surprisingly loud.
I would reccomend this if you are just giving it a try.

Just ordered one for my other son's birthday. Went to put it on as a deal and they are out of stock already. You can click to be reminded when they are back in stock.

It would be way above what I would need but the things that amp can do astounds me! It's either an amazing amp or just flashy tricks to impress the man on the street. I like it!
