My beloved Firefox updated itself and wont start at all, which is odd as it was working fine before. I am using Window 8.1 64 bit version, when checking in the task manager there is a process running using 30mb of RAM and 0% cpu .

Stuff i tried so far:

- try loading it in safemode - still doesn't load
- tried deleting the profiles found under users/appdata
- tried uninstalling and downloading a fresh copy.
- tried disabling kaspersky and malwarebytes
any other suggestions?

thanks

manage to fix the issue, not the ideal solution but I ended up downloading the previous version(48) from Mozilla's website.

copied my original profile data over and all good as before.

Disable Windows defender.

I had the same issue with chrome on Win10 + kaspersky. If you have Windows Home edition then you cannot disable defender so try uninstalling malwarebytes. Failing that you just have to scrap Kaspersky. I contacted kaspersky about this issue and they are aware of the AV clash causing apps to not load - but they didn't seem to give a sh*t about developing a workaround.

Use chrome, I used to be a firefox fan but made the switchover as firefox became laggy.

download the new version from Mozilla using internet explorer or other browser, uninstall Firefox then reinstall the downloaded version. sometimes the updates go wrong

Firefox is brilliant - Windows isn't.
Because windows grets attacked a lot measures need to be put in place to defend it from attacks. Linux rarely gets attacked and its defence mechanisms do not interfere with apps.
A drastic solution perhaps but in the long term work out a migration plan to Linux.
In the short term delete Kaspersky - or at least stop it running. Re-install FF - making sure you backed up your FF profile, bookmarks and passwords for restoration later. You may also be able to find the previous version of FF to download and install. also can you not roll back to a restore point before FF updated?

Love firefox but every release seems to break some of the addons, most importantly roboform. Still on version 42 :)
