What are some of the best (delicious) buys at Aldi/ Lidl (especially food products)? Used to be a loyal Morrisons customer but these days the quality of these budget chains have vast improved if not better, I've completely switched over! Would appreciate some recommendations for my next food shopping! Thank you

I'm quite picky so I'm reluctant to try stuff X)

The Ketchup from Lidl is nice, from Aldi the Tuna & Sweetcorn sandwich filler is yummy & their frozen potato wedges I think are nicer than McCains.

I've only got an ALDI locally

Pasta and rice
Passata, oil and canned stuff (tesco can be cheaper on canned stuff).
Cheese is great value the essential stuff is less then £4/kg I think, which is ideal for cooking with. I'd avoid the soft/cream cheese as its a Marmite (you either love it or hate it) product.
There frozen veg, pizzas and potato products are pretty damn good. The wedges are the best you can buy and the triple packs of pizzas are good.
Spices and cooking essentials like flour and eggs always seem well priced.
Fruit and veg is good if you get a new stock day or you have a rummage, don't be afriad to lift the top container and get the fresher ones from the bottom ones.
Oh and there cold coffee is great.

Just try to avoid the Special buys, while there is nothing wrong with them its very easy to spend £20+ on stuff you really don't need.

Lidl
Fruit is usually very good
Summer fruits yogurts
smoked salmon
Free range eggs medium (they are big)
Orange Juice (it tastes like tropicana only cheaper)
Lager
Handcooked crisps
Their own brand twix bars are better than twix
Chicken breast - no water injected into it so it cooks rather than boils.
Beef Mince (meat) is all meat no gristle.
Pasta is good.
Luxury Curry Sauces are good.

Our lidl has just been knocked down for a bigger one so now have to drive there. Am missing it! It's much better than Tesco, Asda and Sainsburys.

Aldi:

smoked salmon is the best of all the supermarkets.

Frozen breaded garlic mushrooms

Lamb shanks in Rosemary and mint (I think) gravy

All their condiments ie Ketchup, mustard, horseradish etc

ALDI - meatballs (Frikadellen), absolutely gorgeous
ALDI - German salami
ALDI - Gouda/Edam cheese slices
ALDI - Bavarian ham
ALDI - all in one dishwasher tablets
ALDI - super 6 fruit/veg offers

LIDL - Bratwurst (for the bbq)
LIDL - Goody Cao milkshake mix, great for the kids
LIDL - crunchy split pot yogurts
LIDL - creamy yogurt 'stracciatella'
LIDL - lemon/stracciatella/marzipan cakes

All good stuff, mainly repackaged for the UK market. Source: I am German and have been shopping at ALDI/LIDL since birth. 8)

PS: In Germany both supermarkets strictly enforce what they are known for: the "don't pack at the till, pack at the packing tables" rule. That gets lots of customers through the tills with little waiting. Here in the UK both supermarkets seem to be struggling with this rule as UK customers refuse to follow it or do not understand it. ALDI/LIDL also do not really remind customers that they should not pack their bags at the tills. Our local LIDL has now installed larger packing areas at the end of the tills, which I presume means that at least LIDL have failed trying to educate UK customers about how they would like their customers to go though the tills... Lidl and Aldi have been better than 'proper' supermarkets for as long as I've been going to them (10+ years). It's a long way from "these days". The only problem is the range is quite small, but the quality is pretty universally excellent.
