Going to be insuring a vauxhall corsa 1L, it will be in my mums name with me (a 24 yr old female student with a provisional) as an additional driver. Anyone recommend any companies that wont rob us blind :)

is your mum teaching you to drive? If not you should wait till you've passed before adding your name.

I went with elephant the first year then churchill the second.

good luck

tried confused.com, got a quote for £400ish which is good, but hey, ill keep looking, just incase. How would you use quidco, can you go from quidco to confused, or would you have to reenter details in insurer that gives you the best quote and go to strate to their site from quidco? I have a quidco acc but i pretty new to it

If you use a search engine before going through Quidco, make sure you clear your cookies first as explained on Quidco website. If you don't the search engine may well be credited for your sale and not Quidco.

As has been said, it's easiest to check a comparison site and then see if you can go through Quidco or TopCashback to see if you can get anything back from them. If so then you need to go via the cashback site and get a new quote (not a saved one or you'll probably miss out on the cashback). Even better, make sure that you clear cookies or even better still, use a different browser to the one that you usually use.

Another good site to look at is www.defaqto.com which actually rates insurance based on how good it is and what they offer rather than just price. Cheapest isn't neccessarily the best if you have to make a claim. For instance, some companies won't cover for new locks etc if you lose your keys or have them stolen, whereas others will do. If it's not much more expensive to get better cover then it's probably worth spending a bit more.

As far as Insurance costs go, 'young, male drivers' can benefit from doing Pass Plus after passing their driving test.

Young female drivers not such an advantage.

In our experience.

Is the car going to be yours once you pass or is it still going to be driven regularly by your Mum? Insurance companies tend to check very thoroughly and often don't pay out if it turns out that the main driver is actually one of the named drivers (especially if it's a younger, inexperienced driver)
