How old is that laptop? more than 3 years and theres a good chance it might be IDE for the HDD, if it's SATA then you have a far bigger choice of drives.

I haven't seen a 80gb 2.5inch drive in over 2 years now.

Assuming Sata 2.5inch drives are around 10p/gb at the best price point of 400gb/500gb drives (£40/£50), anything bigger or smaller tends to be more expensive per gigabyte.

You're looking at £30 minimum, for a 250gb drive if you are lucky.

I suspect unfortunately you need an IDE drive:
http://www.ebuyer.com/search?store=2&cat=4&subcat=19

£40 for a 160gb, that's quite expensive, but then IDE drives are becoming less and less common.

Have a gander on eBay might have more available for that old style connection of hard drive.

Hi, thanks for the reply, how will I be able to tell how old the laptop is??? I actually got the laptop given from work but they had to remove the hard drive due to company policy....

Open up the hard drive bay (Dell usually put a little symbol of a cylinder for indicate where the HDD is.

You will need small screwdrivers for this, you will either have a slot in bay or a horizontal flat cover for it where the HDD used to be.

The connection inside the laptop when you look will either accept pin so row of tiny holes in a block or two sata connections.

On the back of the laptop, you will find "Service Tag". Go to Dell.co.uk and then support. there is an option on the site to get all the information based on service tag.
