Looking to get an iPhone 3g on contract. What's the best deal out there at the present?

Thanks in advance

I would wait until the competition starts early next year, as everyone except 02 now has the exclusivity of the iphone.

Was only going to kind of back the above point.
If you can, wait until Orange launch because prices will most probably fall.

Thanks for the replies guys. Been after a smartphone for a while but was unsure whether to go Nokia, Blackberry or Apple. Decided on the iPhone after playing with my mates for a while.

Didn't realise about the o2 exclusivity or the fact Orange will be offering it soon. Will see what Orange will be charging before I sign up.

Cheers

No other phone compares to the iphone, i'm not an apple fanboy infact quite the opposite, its just there interface works so well, all other touchscreens i've used have been pap

I will be getting a 3gs when the orange tariffs are out...

Also consider the HTC Hero which is a very good phone.

What I did when I upgraded my 02 contract to the 3G iPhone last November was to go for the £45 deal as this gave the handset for free. Then after 9 months downgrade to the next tariff below (£35) for the remaining 9 months. This way you got the phone for free and effectively double minutes for the first 9 months all for £405 rather then paying £315 plus another £100 for the phone on the 35 deal @ £415... works out £10 cheaper this way and you had more minutes.

Now though with Vodafone and Orange entering the iPhone market people are expecting really cheap deals. Somehow I doubt this will happen. The iPhone is an expensive handset and the operators subsidise this through the contracts so I don't think you will be seeing any differences in prices between operators, maybe a few more mins/texts thrown in to attract people but that's probably about it... However I did look on a bbc news article and actually Orange has the best 3G coverage in the UK out of the three iPhone networks.

O2 though will have to start an iPhone retention service now as they won't want to loose its customers to the other networks so I think we will be seeing some special retention iPhone plans. When my contract ends I'll be seeing if this is the case and then either look at the 4th iPhone which should be released by then and the contracts for it or move to simplicity with the web-bolt on and keep my current iPhone running.
