I'm flying out on holiday on Thursday and am looking to go out tomorrow and get my euros sorted. Can anyone tell me some of the best rates around at the moment??

Try looking at this on MSE tell you the best rates. There is 2 companies that deliver for free, im ordering mine for next week. TBH ive not looked on the highstreet this week. Some good holiday spending advice on the site even if you dont order any monies. Good luck and happy holidays

Ive just found this comparison website which gives you highstreet rates as well and it seems that the rates on MSE to be delivered are better

I've no experience of going abroad, this is my first time, can i walk in and take the money/travellers cheques home that day or do i need to order, in places like M&S, Post Office, Travel Agents?

Dont go to the post office. Although there's "no commision" the rates are higher than most.

If you have not been abroard before it is well worth you reading the MSE travel web pages, theres some good advise on what cards to use etc... You can get stung with charges if your not carefull.
Yes you can just walk in to most travel agents etc and pick up euros and cheques but if you are buying cheques you need id (think it might have to be passport) You do have to be carefull when changing sterling cheques abroard because some hotels charge commission and also you get a very poor rate (best going into a bank)
If you buy sterling cheques you get the rate the hotel/bank in resort offer. If you buy euro cheques then you buy them here at the rate of exchange on day of purchase.
I hope this helps

try morrisons if you have one near you, they search all the best rates everyday - saves you!!!

If you have a Flexaccount with Nationwide, you should use your card to withdraw Euros abrouad. There is no charge/commisson for doing this, and the rate will always beat the high street rates. I recently went to Majorca, and took some Euros with me, getting a rate of 1.23. We used our Nationwide card at the airport and got a rate of 1.26.
Failing that, Travelex are usually about the best. Pre-book inline and pick up at the airport.
We pre-booked our Euros at 1.23, but if we hadn't, and just bought at the airport, the rate would have been 1.13!

If you have a money shop near you then yesterday they were doing 1.22 to the pound, with no minimum spend, I couldn't find any better on the high st where I was

Thomas cook gave me 1.22

travelex online is usually the best. You order online at least 24 hours in advance and can then collect them from their offices, most of which are in airports so you can collect it from your departure airport on the day you fly. They open at 4am in airports.
