Are there any reputable, free services?

Thanks in advance

once I'm able to download/extract, is that all there is to it? (no subscriptions or logins?)

I use oznzb to search for films etc

https://www.oznzb.com/

then grabit as the download & extraction software

http://www.binaries4all.com/grabit/index.php

I use quickpar if any rars are damaged or missing after download

http://www.binaries4all.com/quickpar/

easy once its set up but initial learning curve is quite steep

I should mention that Virgin do free downloads but I only use this for tv shows ;)

I think you may need to pay for a service in order to use Newsgroup servers...unless you are a Virgin customer or want an unreliable service.

As I said, any info I can find seems to be quite dated - my questions have pretty much been answered above, but can never have too much information :)

news.virginmedia.com is Virgin Media's news server. It has about 7 days of data, so not great, but if what you need has been uploaded recently, it will max your connection in download speed.

Personally I wouldnt use my own ISP's server to download films. Sort of defeats the point of newsgroups / SSL and anonymity ;)

Sabnzbd is the equivalent of uTorrent. That is what I use.

Check out 'cheapnews ' there are just that really cheap but offer good retention and pricing. Plus you can get a 10mb speed for a few quid.

The other bonus is they are a such based site so like likely to have takedowns (not that it doesn't trapped just sometimes not as quick as some of the Usa sites)

Once you get stuck into new groups a bit more I would recommend having two suppliers and have a block account (like newsgroup direct) as a back up.

They take a bit of getting used to but once it all clicks they are a breeze to use
