Am a bit broke now... So would welcome any deal. I have been to Moneysavingexpert.com's laptop thread but they weren't as useful as I thought. Best deal I could get was a dual core laptop with 512MB memory.

Would you consider a good quality second hand model? Or brand new only?

Try Dell in the business section - vostro 1000 about £300 delivered with a 1gb memory.

yep the sempron version with 1gig of RAM comes to £293.82 develiered.

Although I'm sure around the £350 will buy a better value laptop, though if your budget is £300 it's £300.

is it ok to order from the Dell business section if u arent a business?

lots of clued up people will give you some good offers. Just passing warning here, do not go for cheaper brands. Laptops are hard to fix and they will break on month 12 when your warranty expires... even fixing a USB port will cost more than your laptop outside warranty.

Toshiba is a good brand. I've seen good things from Acer too. Dell is not bad... and we have a resident dell offer king (Mike) on this site always posting good offers for them so look out.

Can't remember much about the difference between dell biz and personal but I think warranty is different? Nothing stopping you from buying through the biz area.

thinking the vostro 1000, but with the dual core chip, battery upgrade etc. But it appears they arn't doing the double RAM offer at the moment - thats a bit of a kick in the teeth.

Not sure if the offers apply to the business section - could be wrong though. I'd upgrade the vostro battery also, only another tenner.

Still looking for a deal.. Tempted by the cheap Asus EEE though at around £200.
