Best Laptop from Currys/PC World for under £500?

Looking for a new laptop, wondering what the best models are at the moment around that price range. Currently have an Acer, but would consider all models.

Hate Vista, but assume most models will come with this as standard now.

Don't particularly play games etc, but would like a good memory capacity for photos and music etc.

Any recommendations?

Why do you hate Vista?

And why does it have to be from PC World / Curry's?

most now should come with vista but with the free upgrade to windows 7. so you can just slap the rc1 on now and in october upgrade to the finished version

this is quite true but if people hate vista, they will despise windows 7 as its just a more complicated version of vista with a few more bits added on so that they can back date there accessories i.e. a printer which was suitable for windows ME or possibly XP and there computer wont have any compatibility issues with it

Ok, hopefully I get on with Windows 7 better than vista!

If it really must be PC World/Currys, then I wouldn't look here;

http://www.telephonesonline.co.uk/_laptops.asp

I got my Laptop from them & I paid £330 for a decent spec Sony Vaio.
Intel Core 2 Duo
1.83GHz (ideally not the best, but for the price....)
2gb
200GB HDD
NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GT - plays Team Fortress 2 & Stalker fine (granted not the newest games)
& some other stuff.......

I considered going down the new new route, but got more for my money on the refurbished side of life & my laptop is immaculate - really quick delivery too.

So, I'd at least give it some thought, before opting for the PC World route.......

P.s. I don't work for them :|

What about PC World business?

As for 'best', what sort of laptop are you looking for? Light and Portable? Desktop substitute? Long battery life?
