Sending a pacel from Somerste to Derbyshire. Going to book through Parcel2Go but not sure whether to use UPS, DPD, Parcel Force, My Hermes or the In Post locker system. Have used Collect Plus in the past but they can be pretty slow and this needs to get to my sister for Christmas. Lots of very mixed reviews about for courier services too so quite confusing to know who is most reliable. Can't use all the various services as need to use a drop off rather home collection and being rurally located some drop off points are miles away.

Also if you try Pacelhero, Moneysavingexpert give you £5 off your first order with MSE16 code against any of the providers on there. If you have more than one email address then you can use this code several times. I posted a large item with my Hermes via them recently and it was insured and signed for and only cost me £1.30 using the code.

I've never had any issues with any of the budget courier companies (items missing etc). Only ever had one issue where a Xbox 360 I sold arrived damaged and the courier company wanted proof of the sale to pay out. It was a little tricky as it was done over SMS, but sent them some screenshots of the texts and they were happy enough and sent me the refund same day.

collectplus that I used if that helps.

for home collection i would say hermes. Ive never had a problem with them but some people would say the opposite. I would book through Myhermes though and you will need a printer and a set of scales.

I've had recent problems with DPD and MyHermes of late.

DPD didn't deliver when they were supposed to then couldn't tell me when an item I'd bought would be delivered to me even though it was in their depot. They told me I would be better driving the 48 miles round trip to the depot myself rathe than them delivering it to me. It took hours on the phone to get it sorted. That said, for other deliveries their tracking app has been very good.

MyHermes - I have paid twice for signed for on delivery but they have not been able to provide me with signatures and I have to constantly chase them for these.

I actually found both Post Office small parcel and Royalmail parcelforce 48 for larger items the most reliable of late. Plus if you know anyone with UNiDAYS, you can get 44% discount which makes Parcelforce competitive against the others.

whoever you go to but dont go to parcelforce my personal experience was they lost my item and never get back to me when ever i ring they cut me off. they simply dont care

If you value it use UPS, Employed full time drivers mainly and get signatures... If it's cheap then my Hermes..... A lot of Hermes and cheap parcel companies drivers are temps and getting paid per parcel, they dont want to return if your not in.. Lots of stories of how they try to leave them with neighbours, throw over gates, leave under bushes ( my friend and not even in her garden).

ParcelForce are just beyond awful, as are MyHermes and Yodel. Only have good things to say about DPD and UPS.

Another recommendation for UPS.......

Many thanks everyone. Thanks especially #leyloleylo for the tip off about parcel hero. Using the UPS drop off service and the £5 off code from MSE means i can ship for 65p!

UPS all the way, I usually book with parcelhero, I send thousands of pounds worth of stock each month and never had an issue.

Myherpes, DPD were a nightmare in my area so much so I had to start a court case against DPD for damaging my garden fence and a brand new yamaha amp I bought.

Yes they threw over the £400 amp into the garden.

Parcelforce are good as well but did have one hiccup with them which they resolved in a somewhat timely manner.

DHL are also fantastic, never had an issue with them.

Ive never had an issue with ParcelForce......but found hermes to be unreliable and Dpd too!

DPD from my experience, always delivery within the 1 hour slot

Don't touch myhermes at the moment, they're having problems with their system.
