Been looking for Pentium D systems and Athlon 64 X2 - around £480 but not sure if the ones from Dell are the best prices we'd get this year. What do you guys reckon? anybody bought systems at this time of the year before? I can wait a few days if bigger bargains might be had or are the Dell prices at their best this year?

also, is pentium D better than an athlon 64 x2?

Thnx.

Not in my opinion...Core 2 are the best CPUs with AMD 64x2 better than Pentium Ds...have you looked at the sub £500 Dell AMD's in the hot deals?
Much depends on whether you want to wait for Vista loaded machines next February?

I've configured a Athlon x2 64 4200+ with 2GB/320GB at dell for £600. wondering if any tuesday deals are out today? or is this the best price for the spec?? are core2duo's that costly!? can't find a decent spec under £700something - including the dell £24 speakers with subwoofer n media card reader

Mesh have some good deals and they are always rated highly by pc magazines such as PC Pro. In fact the top 2 home pc's are currently Mesh in the PC Pro hitlist.

I just ordered the Elite2 D820 from them for some friends in Liverpool. It has an Intel Pentium Dual Core 2.8ghz processor (not to be confused with the newer Core 2 Duo). 1Gb of Ram, 250 GB HD, DVD Writer, 19" widescreen monitor etc...

Dell do an almost identical machine for around the same price but the Mesh one comes with a 3 year back to base warranty whereas the Dell only has a 1 year back to base one.

Hope this helps

That seems a good price...yep the Core 2 desktops,,DELL 9200 are usually £700 +...there is a good HP Core 2 machine on offer

add a TFT monitor...but it's a case of probably adding another 1gb of memory and upgrading the graphics card if you're a serious gamer...but the Core 2 is defiantely the superior CPU.s
