Depends on how much you want.
At half term I got some from Sainsburys online (better rate than instore) and price and service was ok

It's pointless chasing around for such a small amount. Just pop in a post office or whatever when you are passing.

If you intend on doing this I'd suggest have a look at MSE's Cheap Travel Money guide. This should explain which cards are best for using abroad. Currently the best are Halifax Clarity & Sainsbury's Gold card.

new bank. Metro Bank current account debit card has no foreign exchange fee and no cash advance fee abroad.

I've only seen this mentioned once perhaps because they have so few branches so far.

Yes, unfortunately you have to go to one of Metro Banks eight London branches to get one (its opening more in future, but all within the M25 area).

If you live near London, go to Victoria, always the best rates at the exchange shops just outside the station.
