Hi Chaps

Anyone have any suggestions on the best price for a day trip from New York to Niagara Falls ?

They all appear to be around the £180 - £200 pp mark. Also anyone have any recommendations of companies who provide these flights / trips ?

Cheers

Do it yourself - hire a car and drive it. It's not too far, petrol is dead cheap, car rentals from budget etc are cheap, and the drive is quite easy.

Once you get there it's really simple to get around NF on foot. You def. have to do maid of the mist first, though, as the queues get HUUUGGGEE !! I recommend staying overnight in a hotel there - the views are incredible, and watching sunset or dawn break over the falls is great (depending on which side you stay on!)

I would recommend doing as Melissa has suggested, its only a few hours drive, and really easy to find. However I have 2 suggestions that are absolute musts.

Firstly visit the Skylon Tower. However dont pay the inflated prices of just going up the tower to view, instead visit the restuarant around 4.30pm for the early bird special. The visit up the tower is included in the cost of your meal, and you sit in the revolving restaurant whilst eating your meal. The views are fantastic of horseshoe falls. If you are meat eaters I would very highly recommend the rib steak. I have tried to replicate the same taste here in the UK paying as much as £30 for one steak, but none have been anywhere near the taste of the ones at Skylon, they literally melt in the mouth. If you are a veggie, try the ceasar salad, its the best. (if you are a monster eater try them both).

Secondly, travel a few miles north to 'Niagara on the lake', its a canadian secret. A lovely village style town, with loads of little boutique shops (the christmas shop is definitely a must). The street cafe's are great, and if you have kids the park is fantastic for picnics.

Only thing I would say is make sure you get on the Canadian side of the falls, the U.S. side is "pants"
We organised it from the hotel we stayed in (Toronto) and it cost £60 a head for a day there with - maid of the mist - evening dinner and stop off at Niagra on the lake.

Agree, it's the better side.

PS don't bother with the 'behind the falls' attraction - it's cack - you just walk through a tunnel to a barrier that's a good 10 foot away from the falls, and see a viewing platform that's only slightly closer than the main pedestrian walkway around the falls !

We stayed at the Sheraton Fallsview - a really nice hotel, with great breakfast (fill yer boots !), and reasonably priced evening meals, too.

With the money you save by organising it yourself, you could afford a helicpter flight over the falls !

Hi folks

Thanks for the replies - but we are only their for a week and we have some other things planned - so an overnight stay is not on the agenda.

We were looking to go their and back with the least amount of faffing about - hence looking at a company who provides these trips.

Anyone have any recommendations ?

Thanks again though - if we had the time the stopover sounds great...
