Best RC helicopter? Syma Fairy or Picoo Z

Hi, I am looking to get a RC helicopter because they look amazing
Does anyone know which is the best one to go for? It seems that the Picoo Z or Syma Fairy are the ones to go for from play.com, but which one?

I must admit the Syma one looks better to me and is cheaper (was £9.99 but it has gone up to £12.99 now! :x)

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

Hi yinujim,

The Syma's wont be dispatched until tomorrow (that's assuming that Play dont throw the date back further) so i won't be able to tell you for at least five days probably.

i bought a syma off ebay and its alot better than the picco

much more controllable and i didnt have to add a weight to the nose to give it forward speed

How you doin andy?

Got your syma yet? I am dying to find out what they are like. I've got the Picoo sussed now, but the only thing I find that is a pain is that the tail roto blades break pretty easily.

You gotta youtube the syma in flight!

Fraid not mate, after waiting twenty days for it to hit the shelves its now temporarily OOS. Play do this to me too often.:x

Guys

If you don't mind branching out a little, then you can get your Syma from here:

http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.4378

It's around £10 delivered.

And the Pico Z is from here:

http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.1252

Costs about £9.50 delivered.

Bulk purchases give huge reductions, and start from only 3 units. So you buy 2 to have a dog-fight and sell 1 to a mate, for the play.com retail price and you'd have yours for virtual £0!

e.g. If you buy 3 pico z helicopters it comes to £27. So £18 for two of them. Sell 1 to a mate for the play.com price of £17.99 and voila - 2 free helicopters for you. I thank you.

I use DX extensively and have to say that their prices and service simply fantastic. You'll wait around 2 weeks for it to be delivered from HK, but it's looking like you be that long waiting for play anyways.

Hope it helps.

Hi Foxy

Yeah, it's a great site. I've been buying everything under the sun from them. Super-cheap! If only I had some cash in my paypal account I might pick up a few of those heliochopters!

Spent the last of my paypal on a GSM Tracker + Bug, for £27 delivered! Just *had* to try it out as an extra security device for my motorbike!

Yeah thats a great site, got all my ds stuff from there.

Any joy yet Andy?

Anyone got a Syma Fairy yet? I'm tempted to get the one that has just come up on ebuyer. I'm assuming it is the same one as play.com sell?

Buy it an review it for us! For such a little price, it's got to be a bargain.

If you wanna setup a group buy for this on www.dealextreme.com then p.m me, although it's about the same price from ebuyer as a group buy would be from DX, so perhaps not worth it.

Hi Foxy, all,

Cancelled my Play.com order the other day, its their stupid loss, no mine. Ordered a fairycopter for under a tenner from Ebuyer and its supposed to be getting here on Wednesday, which is earlier than quoted.

Will let you all know my thoughts as soon as i give it a play with.

Does anyone have any experience of the larger Syma copters on Ebuyer please, i am soooooooo tempted?
#18
Hi Andy

Can you use the larger ones outside? We're not too far from Greenwich Park, so its quite tempting...
#19
Apparently you can yes, if its uber calm weather conditions. I am under the impression that they wont fly as well as the micro-copters.

Got my Picoo Z from DX today. Looks like its been opened by customs! There are no markings on it that it is a Silverlit Picoo Z, so I am dubious as to it's flying capabilities. Oh well, nothing venturered nothing gained! Still, not bad for £9.75 delivered!

Thanks for the tip off thekanester!

Let us know how it flies at any rate will ya?

Hope it works for you Foxy mate. Don't be too disheartened, my best Picoo was a fake/clone. The advantages of the fakes are the stability, the disadvantage is that more of them turn out to be duff than genuine, but you should be able to return it if so.

How to tell if its genuine:

Silverlit stamped on the base of genuine choppers.
Genuine Picoos have a different remote.
Power button on the chopper is blue on the genuine Picoos.
Genuine Picoos have a studded design along the bit that connects the tail to the body.
Fakes have softer foam and a slightly different design.
If you put cellotape on the black "window" and rip it off, the paint will come off the fakes (just colour it in again with a black marker or miss this test all together).
Also the item description should mention that its a Silverlit Picoo Z, if it doesnt then its probably not.

If it doesnt fly well Foxy try changing the tail rotor, the genuine Picoo ones are slightly better. You never know, the fake may fly even better than the original then!

Good luck, and please report back!
