I would take the train, parking will cost you alot expect to pay over £10pounds a day

Depending on what side you are coming from, you could consider parking outside the centre and getting a train. Smethwick Galton Bridge has a free car park and is very close to M5 J1. Train is under 2 quid return I think, would probably save you some time as well.

There are a couple of NCP carparks in that area (near the Children's hospital), not sure what the daily rate is but some NCP's do a season ticket which should be cheaper than the daily rate

hey guys thanks for the replies, decided im going to take the train in for a couple of days and maybe check out the car parks, NCP charge around £10 a day :w00t:
any other suggestions welcome, also there seem to be one or two sites where people can rent out their spaces eg from apartments, anyone have any recommendations?

You don't get cheap car parking in Central Birmingham, your best to Train or Cycle. Go from New Street maybe.

You do if you know where to look !
If you dont mind a 10ish minute walk to Snow Hill there are a few places from free to under £5 a day.

yep, park on summer lane in newtown and get 1 of 20 odd busses which take around 5 minutes to get into the city centre.
it is free to park and will either take 10 minutes to walk into town or 5 mins on the bus.
park at the back of the nia where there is housing for free.

the problem with these places is that a good percentage of the 'locals' who inhabit those areas like to see what people have in their cars so i would not leave anything of value in there.

If you know where M Latif & Sons is (New Canal Street) there is free parking on the streets round there as well a whole day parking for around £3.50.
There is a Euro Car Parks car park off Broad street which has 12 hours parking for £3.80.
Great Colmore Street also has some parking apparantly, although i've never parked there myself, which i think is also free.
Personaly i wouldnt leave my car anywhere in Newtown for any lenghts of time !
Back of the NIA is also a good option, i know people who park there and have never had any problems.
