Sticker books should be easy to find, but airplanes??? Mmm, try Woolies or Toys R Us or local supermarkets (Tescos or Asda). We got a farm vehicle sticker book/toy for 97p in Asda recently.

i knows it harder than i thought, i think i mite have to change it, its just i fort like being in the airport etc with all the planes, nice theme going but not if i cant get the stuff

My son is two, what would I provide for him? Mmm, sticker books, books, colouring books etc but that's for the car. I would have thought thag the airport would keep him entertained as they're so busy. The flight on the otherhand, that could be tricky...

Maybe a portable DVD player if you haven't got any entertainment on the plane? A cheap Game Boy Advance, my 5 year old was playing one at 2?

When my daughter was 18 months we went on a four hour flight. We got mainly books. Also got this little purse

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sassy-228-Babys-First-Wallet/dp/B000067QX8

Spent ages cutting up cards to put in it. Thought it was a great idea until she systematically emptied them all on the floor of the plane. Did keep her occupied for the ten minutes it took her to emtpy it though;).

Subsequent flights I found crayons and sticker books are great. Bargain books are usually good for cheap sticker books. Dunno about planes ones though ;). We also have a portable DVD player which keeps her occupied on long car journeys as well as planes. Definitely worth the investment.

Ok this really appealed to me, you making your son a little aeroplane kit to play with! So I looked into it for you and one option I came across whilst googling 'colouring in book aeroplane' is below - the link to Artietheairplane has colouring pages of lots of different types of areoplanes, available free to print out and be coloured in. To be honest this is obviously a popular subject - if you look in google for the same quote, you will find lots of sites, you could practically make him an entire set, complete with photos, colouring books, loads of stuff for them to do.

Hope this helps!

Also found this - which links to loads of aeroplane stuff - including dot to dot

If your really stuck I live round the corner from The Fleet Air Arm Museum at Yeovilton.

I have had a look at the web site and apart from some kids t shirts there is not much on the site but from personal knowledge of the shop there is loads of cheap gear for kiddies , I am the older bigger kiddie version.:giggle: . If you get stuck try

http://www.fleetairarm.com/index2.htm and at worst as its part of my beat I can pop in see what there is and you could give them a bell and see if they do mail order for the kiddie stuff

I'd try these yummymummy:

Topsy & Tim Go On An Aeroplane

Try and get the KLM tags with his name and his favourite plane on it :)

Try and buy him a small model of a plane (eg concorde) to keep him amused

Try the i-spy book of aircraft, these cost about £1.50 and he will be able to tick them off when he sees them. There is also one for at the airport, so when he walks round (eg. signs, check in desks etc.) at the back of this one there is a check list of all the aircraft tails aswell

wow kids are really being spoilt these days arent they!
- i think the experience of a flight etc is fun enough, but of course yes some books, drawing stuff and magazines would be fun.
Portable DVD player - don't go there, I call them an excuse for parenting.
when a kid is bored giving him an electronic gadget is a very short term solution - good luck when he's a teenager!

hiya! my sugestions are - give your son a little rucksack that he can ware on his back for use inside the plane. While at the airport I would brouse the shops for duty free (I always buy something, perfume/new camera) you could buy him a little something with an airport logo/theme prehaps?
Then sit and have your drink (brought from home/or buy a coffee) wile looking out of the window @ the planes. The time soon goes and then down to the boarding area.
In the rucksack I would put a little story book, faverote toy from home, a little duplo (bricks do not roll off the tray) a peg board puzzle, new comic - bring the colouring pencils for the pages to colour, his cup and a light snack such as a few rich tea biscuits.

In the suitcase I would have one of thoose hang down travel cases packed with things like a scrap book and prit stick glue, little stickers so you all can keep the little things that are often thrown like pictures advertising places to visit, entry tickets and post cards. Small things, cars, coloured pegs for teaching him colours and counting( also useful for hanging out the towels).

What ever you do! don't over feed him!!!!
On my last flight a couple just opposite me had a small child, they started off with the sweets, then when the drinks trolly came around-bought him an aeroplane and pringles. The child then had the flight meal and a little later they came around with tubs of icecream-so they bought him that too! It was not long before they started to ask if anyone had a sick bag?

Hope my info helps-have a good holiday  p.s make some paper planes, put on stickers/colour in?

Hi, Yummy mummy-thank you for your reply.
We are going to Lanzarote about the same time you fly! Last 2 weeks in May, to include our daughters birthday!
We too are having an appartment, right opposite the sea front :)
4 people going and 3 suitcases. I thought you might be intrested in my latest scheeme? I have not tried this but we are taking the small george forman grill with us in one of the cases. Very small and was advertised on hot deals for about £6/7 a few weeks ago. Our own adapter plugs of course! the reason being having to cook a dinner for 4 on 2 rings is quite hard-no oven/grill provided :-( . We do have some meals out but not for 14 nights!!! to expensive. We are also taking a travel DVD player in hand luggage (first time)
unsure if we can with the wires supplied with it - plug it into the main appartment TV (which we all know only covers sport) or will run it off the battery and recharge. I have been watching all the deals for DVD box sets on here. I also think when we go out the DVD player will be going in the appartment safe for safe keeping.

What do you all think? and will it work?

Bet the customs guy gives you some very strange looks when he opens your case to find a george foreman grill. Best bring a smoothie maker, ice lolly moulds and some vegetable oil too (for the tan). Seriously though, Lanzarote is very nice. Where abouts are you going.

Hello Mrtootough! We are traveling with Panorama to Apartments Caleton Blanco in Puero del Carmen. I know, people put strange things in their suitcases!!! I have heard of folk taking plug in electric fans, but I don't do that. I also talked to another couple around the pool-as you do! they had sausages and bacon in a mini cool bag in their case. I won't be doing that either.

This weekend we are going to Belgian on a mini break.

Best wishes....

I agree that electronic gadgets are lazy parenting but if you can think of a way for me to entertain two boys while I'm driving for 4 hours please let me know! ;-)

You taking the George Foreman grill with you ? Don't forget your travel adapter.
No need for electric fans if you wave your george foreman grill frantically. Just make sure it's not switched on at the time. Bet the holiday snaps are great too. This is me and the grill at the pool, this is me and the grill at the pub. I jest of course

Maybe you should take one of these too ?

Completely off topic, but, Farnborough - Hooray!

Once walked the airshow after being bitten by a big dog that morning.
