I am wondering whether to get a stand alone blu ray player or ps3?

I have an xbox 360 but was tempted to get a ps3 for blu ray and maybe a game see what it's like online. But online on the xbox 360 pretty good.

Just want some info on blu ray would you say it's worth getting? I'm new to all this.

Any help much appreciated.

Same as you, a couple of weeks ago......... Just thinking of buying a blu ray.........BUT got the ps3 slim instead, no regrets !!!............... AS it can play games , watch Blu-rays , watch dvds and can play back downloaded films!!:-D
Got it for around £250 which is nearly the same price as a blu-ray!!!

Online on the 360 is a lot lot better but it costs around £27 a year where as PS3 online gaming is free. If you are happy with that and the gaming on your 360, I would just get a stand alone BlueRay player for under £100

If all your mates have PS3s and play a lot online might be worth getting one, but I doubt it.

Is Blu-ray a big improvement, do you get more extras than a normal dvd?

i went for the ps3 nearly a year ago and never looked back...i rarely play games on it as im more into the 360 for that, but for the blu ray player alone its brill...im not sure how difficult it is to upgrade the firmware on normal blu ray players as you do have to do it sometimes, but on the ps3 if your connected to the internet it will inform you of any available updates so youve always got the latest firmware...

if you do go for the ps3 make sure you get a blu ray remote aswell, i got mine included not sure if they still do that though.

The online store for the ps3 is nowhere near as much of a rip off as the 360's...everything has a set price instead of having to buy points and having more than you need or just not quite enough!

depends what tv/sound system/connections youve got mate....im not exactly a whizzkid when it comes to hi tech knowhow, but ive got a 1080i samsung hdtv and i think the difference between blu ray and dvd is unbelievable...some films do look quite poor compared to others but even then there atleast twice as clear as dvds.

as for extras, most of the blu rays ive got either come with a 2nd cd full of extras or have extras included on the 1st disc...some of them have tonnes more extras than dvds, some not so many...

Thanks for the info. Not really in the know with this blu ray stuff.

I was going to get ps3 but i was put off with the online play not been so good.

I'll check my tv to see if it's 1080i.

I mean certain blu ray dvds suppose to be better than others like gladiator. i guess alot of action films be good.

I noticed you only get 1 ps3 controller with the game. There is quite alot of different options you can get a few blu ray dvds and controller and hdmi cable i think. in hmv there do an extra 2 year warranty for £24.99 which is good.

Decisions!

yeah if your never gunna use it for gaming then go for the blu ray player and get yourself some free films or bits and bobs....gladiator if anything if one of the poorer films mate...doesnt convert over well at all...some of the best in my opinion are:

black hawk down
transformers
30 days of night
wall-e
rocknrolla
death race

cant remember any others for now..when you do decide to go for either one, give me a shout and ill let you know what else ive got and what looks good/bad etc.....you can really get ripped off with some blu rays as they dont convert over that well so it helps to know in advance whether its worth just getting on dvd!
