Booking a package holiday....

Hi,

I am after a bit of advice about booking a package holiday...mainly do you think its worth doing online or going the old fashioned route of going down to the travel agents.

My main problem with booking holidays (this year and every year) is that my other half is a teacher, so we see prices rocket for our time of year, and there is never any decent late deals. Last year we drove to Glasgow (from Carlisle) as the Jocks had their half-term a week earlier, which made the holiday slightly cheaper but this year we only live 5 miles from Newcastle Airport so ideally we'd like to fly from there to save on driving and petrol costs.

Any advice would be mucho appreciated.

Most people think that booking holidays online is always the cheapest option, this is not always the case. In most cases a good local travel agent can beat the price that you find on a website. Might be worth having a look around online to see what is the best price you can find then go into your local agent and see what they can offer.

Hays Travel have branches in your area and are a really good agent in the North East, pop in or give them a call and see what they can offer.

How long are you looking to go for? Any idea where you would like to go?

Sounds like decent advice, cheers.

We'll only be going for a week, as its half term.

Somewhere hot, probably 4 or 5 star and anywhere apart from Turkey I think.

Quality!

I reckon anything up to £550 per person will be considered...preferably half board or £650 if All Inclusive.

Cheers. :)

Morenohatter, have had a look round for you, there are some really good prices on Hays Travel website.

There are quite a few nice hotels on the Costa del Sol from £639.72 total price including flights from Newcastle, the link is below.

http://www.haystravel.co.uk/searchresults.php?packagetype=DP&itinerary_id=si1636&departure=2007-05-27&arrival=2007-05-27&duration=7&airporttocode=AGP&airportfromcode=NCL&boardbasis=4&rating=4&stage=choosehotel&noint=1

Saturday 26 May from Newcastle to the Algarve from £978.39 total price
http://www.haystravel.co.uk/searchresults.php?packagetype=DP&itinerary_id=si2366&departure=2007-05-26&arrival=2007-05-26&duration=7&airporttocode=FAO&airportfromcode=NCL&boardbasis=4&rating=4&stage=choosehotel&noint=1

Both of the above options are building your own holiday on the website. Still on the Hays site, I've had a look at some package holidays to the Algarve in a 4 star hotel, prices are generally £600 + per person, so a lot cheaper to build your own holiday.

Sunday 27 May from Newcastle to Zante - from £999.08 total price
http://www.haystravel.co.uk/searchresults.php?packagetype=DP&itinerary_id=si2703&departure=2007-05-27&arrival=2007-05-27&duration=7&airporttocode=ZTH&airportfromcode=NCL&boardbasis=4&rating=4&stage=choosehotel&noint=1

These are just a few options there are loads of others, from the quick look round I've had Hays have the best prices. If I find anything better will let you know
