i had similar setup.
normally you just buy a android box similar to below (load up with xmbc/kodi), connect the box to internet and hdmi connection to your tv. that it, a simple smart tv.

example:- but loads from ebay and amazon, have to find ones you prefer.

Mx2 android box is a decent budget box approx £40 on Ebay

My vote goes to chromecast.

Get a cheap "smart" box - Cromecast/nowtv or PC etc rather than a tv or blu ray with smart features.
Reason: We have a 2yr old LG smart 3D blu ray player, that LG seem to have given up supporting with firmware updates after about 12/18 mths. Although it works fine, we can not get some services that newer LG products can.

I'd also vote chromecast if it does all you want. Most user friendly device if everyone has a smart phone or ipad

Connect panosonic to a cat5 cable and plug into router. Cheep enough. Then update software it's under the tv settings. The media player and Iplayer get sorted and works well after. I permanently keep my 3 year old plasma plugged in for YouTube ect. Netflix is also listed under apps. You may not need a chrome cast.

Just got a chromecast. Streams all the good stuff like showbox and mod bro. Best €20 spent all year.

I've got mini PC dongles on all my TVs. Had them for years with no problems. As long as you've got an HDMI port on your TV, you're good to go. You can get them on Ebay from £20 upwards. They basically turn your TV in to a smart tv, equivalent to an android tablet, so you can get show box, YouTube etc, surf the net and everything else you can do on an android tablet. They also have Bluetooth depending on which model you get. Look up mk801 on EBay.
