Bought a Philips TV from Argos a couple of days ago in store, really disappointed with the picture quality, not as good as my 6 year old Toshiba. What are my rights to return it for a refund? Will they except it back or does it depend on store? Has anyone returned a TV back to Argos for the same reason?

your not using a HD TV on a non HD signal by any chance are you?
if you are the picture will look worse

No the picture is poor on HD Apple TV, Xbox Etc. The picture quality on the actual TV though our YouView box in HD is OK. It fast moving images in HD that really let it down. No matter how much I play with the settings I just can't get it so I'm happy with it! :-/

Have you switched from an old CRT tv to the latest led? Because if you have the picture quality will be inferior, it's something you'll either have to get used to or switch back, i don't care what anyone say's, led/lcd/plasma tv's still haven't got the picture quality of older CRT sets yet.
#4
Is there anything in the box that you attach the the aerial lead? same thing happened to a friend, then she added this extra bit to the lead and the picture improved.
#5
My old TV was an original LCD and it just blows this thing away! I'm really disappointed and may just box it up and take it back! There's nothing else in the box to attach the aerial to, its the full HD stuff that lets it down! :(

Argos returns and refund policy:

http://www.argos.co.uk/m/static/StaticDisplay/includeName/ReturnsAndRefunds.htm

This link will also be useful:

http://www.which.co.uk/consumer-rights/problem/i-want-to-return-my-goods-what-are-my-rights

If the TV isn't excluded from the 30 day money back guarantee then you're golden, if it is you could try to argue that you didn't truly have an opportunity to try the product before getting it home but this will be defeated very easily if there was one with image on display

might sound daft but have you tried a better/different hdmi cable?
and also just double check the settings in your devices like your Xbox to make sure they are set to output to full HD sometimes they can change .
if it has a USB try downloading a sample video in full HD and try it direct from the USB.

a £1 hdmi cable will perform the same as a £30 hdmi cable. not surr of you will gey a refund but my friend disliked a tv he bought from argos and took it back and exchanged it for a different one with no hassle.

hope this helps

I have fat fingers hence the spelling mistakes lol ;)

Yeah, i tried most things but can't get the picture so I'm happy with it. Device settings are all 1080p. The screen just seems to be poor quality!

yeah I used to think that until I actually bought a £1 cable lol
but tbf the issue I had with the £1 cable wasn't the picture quality it was flickering all the time

I want a refund really there's nothing else I want from them only bought this because it was on a deal! That's probably why it's not great! Can't find much about it on reviews. :(

Sadly, Philips TV's are no longer the great TV's they once were, they are no longer made by Philips.

Like many products these days, they are just badged items.

Im pretty sure they will refund it no problem. Only thing they dont are personal care items so they wouldnt refund or exchange a hairdryer I bought. Pretty annoyed really as it doesnt actually touch my hair like tongs or straighteners do but they wouldnt budge on the matter.

They also will not refund anything that is capable of recording any type of data, audio or visual.

Yeah forgot about that as someone I know tried to exchange a pvr with no luck.

They will only refund if it is faulty or broken.

If you walk in be polite and say it is faulty, they will ask you to explain, ..............................., and then you will get a refund
#21
Whatever happened to the old Argos 16 day exchange policy?

It was in place because customers could not touch/see the items for sale.
#22
Argos no longer take everything back like they used to. when I bought a digital camera I was told I can only return it if faulty.
#23
I know where your coming from when you say poor picture. There are differences between picture quality on tvs. I think it's more than just the specification as I have seen high end tvs with terrible picture straight of aerial. I think you need to be sure tv has good reviews or see tv working before you buy although we have all been disappointed with a purchase we have made in the past. You should box up and try for refund. Good luck

looking at the Argos website - TVs have this symbol/ note

This item is excluded from the 30 day money back guarantee. See the Additional Information panel for full details. Please note that this product is excluded from our 30 Day Money Back Guarantee. This does not affect your statutory rights.

therefore NO they will not take it back unless it is faulty

Been back into store today and they said I can return it for a full refund. I was really pleased with the service the offered. May be they are not all as bad as the experience some people have! :)
