b) Non LLU 8Mb connection
c) Fixed IP

I am a BT and O2 customer for phones.

Can anyone recommend a deal they have seen

People are saying very good things about O2 broadband - £7.50 per month for an O2 customer. Look at this site for ratings:-

No fixed IP for non LLU though. Shame as I would get a good deal

LLU = Local Loop Unbundling - Its where the big non BT companies out their own networking equipment in your exchange. So an LLU enabled exchange (Usually larger exchanges) can offer things like Tiscalai or Bulldog broadband upto 24MBps. It also means your telephone is actually on their network.

Sadly I am in the sticks and no unbundling so I have to choose a provider who 'leases' the telephone line and network equipment off BT and this is generally limited to 8MBps (ADLSMax)

vixygwim, are you a heavy user? I have unlimited now so have no concept of how much I use. My son plays Xbox 360 online 5 hours/night. I am on 20 hours a day (or comp is) bringing in email etc.

Also is the 30Gb download only? any upload caps?

Thanks

Online gaming by itself isn't particulaly high usage but if he downloads lots of game demos or mods then that can push the usage up - I don't know about consoles by some of the PC demos can reach 2GB.

e-mail and webpages don't use much at all. Maybe 5GB maximum.

You can install something like netmeter to monitor the PC's usage but I don't know how to do the same for the xbox.

Zen are very good is reliability is a priority and they offer a choice of 1 or 8 static ips for no extra cost I believe.
