BeThere (BeBroadband) Be Value connection, £14.99 8mbs Unlimited with complimentary router.

Has a £25 connection fee.

For £18 you can get 24mbs.

Be, Zen, Demon or Cable

Everything else is cack.

I personally find BT Total Broadband excellent. Phone up to ask for your MAC code to allow you to switch provider and they should offer you Total Broadband Option 1 for £14.99 for the year. Also you can then get a free BT Vision box as well. I think it's a good deal.

Any BT broadband customer can now get BT vision for £30 (self install) hwoever this incldues the v-box and 2 powerline adapters so you throw the ADSL signal round the mains.

Broadband wise it depends what you want from a provider, do you download alot, do you want stuff bundled with your package, do you want to pay one company for your phoneline and broadband?
Is cable available in your area? I'm a BT/Openreach engineer (was Telewest) and I'd be with cabe broadband IF i didn't get free adsl from BT.

Oh I don't know.....

I used to be with Telewest, now with AOL.

Never had a problem with AOL 2mb broadband, always get speed of 230/240 on torrents, same as when I was with Telewest/Virgin.

I don't really notice a difference on the 2mb service anyway.

If cack is simply because there are faster connections available,
that's a bit harsh - it wasn't many years ago that a creaking dialup was normal.

You got any idea of how far away from the exchnage you are? As this will make a difference with the speed you'll get. Cable don't have exchanges so it makes no difference with them.

You can check your approx distance from the exchane at samknows.com

I am just off the town centre where I live,
the exchange is the other end of the town centre, less than 10 minutes walk.

That might explain why it's good then.

how about Virginmedia for £15.50 p/m for both 2MB unlimited BroadBand and Phone.
I know it still says offer until 31/10/07 but it is still working. Also get £10 discount for ordering online. Also make sure go through Quidco and get £55 too.
So it is £15.50x12=186+30 installation fee-(10+55)= total cost for the year £151

Talk Talk phone, 8mb b/band & free eve & w/e calls all for around £16 - steal !!

Talk Talk big no no, Aohell nope, Virgin garbage, BT not bad, BE very good, Zen used to be good, also stay away from plusnet, efhbroadband, tiscali, tesco. If you download nothing and use it for surfing then go with price, but if you want to download lots and have a truly unlimited service then your options are almost nil due to the ripp off britain on ADSL, but there is one and that is UKonline and BEthere are also very good last time I checked. I'm with UKonline (LLU 8meg) and use newsgroups and its defo 110% unlimited unlike 99.9% of rubbish out there. Hope it helps :-)
#11
my mums on talk talk and its bloody ****! connection drops constantly, the download speeds are equivilant to a 512kbps connection even on 8meg
#12
no problems whatsoever with talktalk, excellent customer service & ridiculously cheap, cannot understand the bad press it get's, It you need 24x7 bband that has to be bullet proof then get completly fleeced by BT at about £50 a month.....for the other 99% of us TalkTalk is more than we'll ever need.

Yes they were oversubscribed, now that aren't and the service is what is should be.

I used to think BT was great until they brought out the Hub.

Since then:

Speed nowhere near 8mb (varies constantly).

Hub is a piece of junk that disconnects all the time and is hard to change settings. Even after changing settings it sometimes factory resets itself.

My internet hasn't been working right for months but even after several engineers confirming a problem in the exchange it hasn't been fixed.

Customer Service phone line is a bad python sketch, Indian callcentre staff that speak good english but can't understand a regional accent making me inunciate everything like a nutter.

Torrent speed is throttled to death and they still have download usage limits.

It's a pity as I used to love BT.

if you have an o2 pay monthly sim, join up to their broadband (which was on here a few weeks ago) the service is provided by BE but is cheaper!

My friend was on tiscali and was getting 2mb internet and anytime phone including the line rental for 14.99. When the contract came to an end,he threatened to leave and now has 8mb connection with anytime landline calls phone with line rental for 14.99. Getting internet effectively for free as Anytime phone calls are around4-5 with any provider and line rental is £10.50 anyway.

If I was not about to move home in next 4-5 months, I would surely have gone for this deal. only 12 months contract.

People are gonna hate me for saying this but i just switched from Virgin to Sky and it looks like a good choice.

Its only been a few days, but the speeds beat the pants off Virgin set was a doddle, free wireless router and a fiver a month!

Only catch is u need to be a sky subscriber.

I did read a lot of bad reports about sky though, maybe they sorted their problems?? maybe i just lucky??

BT Broadband nothing beats them

I got free BT Vision Box
Free 1 month free
Free VOD downloads just for being a valued customer

:)

That or ukonline are really the only choice. Checkout adsl guide now known and think broadband (google will pull up the links) the rest are a nightmare, especially talk talk! Good choice :-)
