Buy a hard drive housing off the eBay (about £5), take out the hard drive and mount it inside.
It's only a few screws to undo and do. Most even come with a mini screwdriver. You probably need a 2.5 inch housing for a laptop hard drive.
You can then plug it into any computer with a USB point.

Need more info
Most places charge loads you got a few options depending on how far you can get when you turn it on. If you can still load your OS then just buy an external drive and back up your data, if you cant then just remove the 2.5HD and then and back up your data that way.

I've been doing this sort of work recently for a friend and a few work colleagues.
I could do this for £40, but with nio charge if I can't get your data.

yea I do data recovery as all, for £30 + vat - no fix no fee. Depends where OP is based really. If you can get into Windows, thats your first battle over.

If so, does the keyboard or mouse pad not work? have you tried attaching a USB KB and / or Mouse. Drop your data onto a USB stick, then your sorted. Im based in Sunderland

I can lend you my usb to ide converter for cost of postage but this would require you to remove the hard drive

If your not technically minded I will backup all your important data to usb 8gb data stick and send it to you for the broken laptop
