We have a BT8500 cordless phone which worked fine until we had a power cut yesterday.
Power cuts have happened in the past and the phone has always worked.

I keep getting the following message on the phone "Can't use that feature on this base".
The phone rings when receiving a call, but you can't answer it. So the phone line does work.

Other "normal" phones in the house work OK.

The batteries are fully charged and I've tried other batteries. I've also unplugged everything for 10 minutes.
I think the base and phone just need relinking together, but everything I've tried from an internet search doesn't work

i.e. the Find Handset mentioned here http://www.fixya.com/support/t25284819-bought_new_bt8500_phones_3_get_work

Is there way to fix the problem without resetting the phone and loosing phone numbers, block lists etc?

Thanks for any help.

I do not use this phone but have a very old BT Synergy phone. It doesn't have all the fancy features your had but from what you have described it does sound like you will need to completely reset the phone. Sadly that will result in loss of your numbers. If you have access the the numbers try to note them down first before resetting the base.

If this does not work and the phone is under guarantee I suggest take it back to the retailer you bought it from.

Relink problem. Sometimes fixes its self after a few hours . Real pain though.

Thank you for your help.

I'll have to write down the numbers and try a reset.
It's been over 12 hours and it still hasn't relinked.
I've tried again pulled the power, still nothing.

God damn nuisance callers, I've had 4 since the phone stopped working.
