My 24 inch Samsung 1080p monitor packed up last week after 8 years faithful service and I've been tearing my hair out trying to find a new one ever since. So many options.... and I'm not an expert on these things. I built my own PC for the second time a couple years ago but I don't keep up to date really on the tech too much. Basically, I have a gtx980 graphics card with an i5 4670k processor and am looking for a 1440p monitor as I understand this is the sweet spot right now in terms of keeping my current setup looking as good as it can be..I understand G sync is good for my card.

I spend a lot of time on it either gaming/watching football streams and just generally messing about on the Net so want it to look as good as it can be.

I've seen the Asus Rog swift PG278QR 27 inch for 550 quid at amazon

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01LWQGIUR/?tag=ho01f-21

I know it isn't IPS panel but it's 1440p and 1ms and it seems to have good feedback. What do you chaps think please?

If you think there is a better option for the price, pray tell please. I need it asap.

It's not as complicated as it first seems actually, most of the time, it's obvious what fits where. You should try it, especially with the Internet nowadays, any issue you come across is usually answered via google.

With you right to the £550 part. I'm looking for a 1440p monitor under £150 :(

Part of me was considering getting this for 150 as a stopgap until I see a good deal on a 1440p as it's got great reviews for the price.

But the more I found out about G sync, the more I think I need it and I'm a firm believer in spending money on the things you spend the most time on or with and I spend a LOT of time on my PC!

I bought a Dell 1440p 144hz G sync last year, very nice monitor, think it's ds217dg or something

Yeah, I considered that as well. Two things put me off...no IPS and I don't like the red on the stand (COYB) X)

Yeah, saw that before but those light bleed issue reviews put me off..I take it you haven't had any issues then?

the freesync one is TN so no issues for me with that. Plus it was £175 cheaper becasue it doesn't have g-sync tax

Was that from a man wearing a Stone Island jacket?

I have the Acer X34 wont go back smaller now! It's so damn useful. Gaming is amazing no tearing.

You only need G Sync if you are playing games. Otherwise there isn't really any major benefit. However if you insist on this tech then Freesync is meant to be similar but much cheaper.
G Sync only works with NVIDIA desktop cards from the 650ti upwards and the latest 10 series and 965,970 and 980 mobile cards. Freesync works with many AMD cards but you have to check to make sure.

IPS gives you better viewing angles and colours but neither is that useful for gaming. TN or VA should be fine for gaming :)

In the end, i went for Asus Rog Swift PG278QR for 550 quid.

https://www.asus.com/uk/Monitors/ROG-SWIFT-PG278QR/

It's got good reviews, it's not cheap but the last monitor I had lasted me upwards of 8 years and the amount of time I spend looking at it makes this a good investment for me. I also purchased it from Amazon so returns should be straightforward if I unfortunately need to.

Thanks all.
