Buying a car from Motorpoint: Advice needed

Evening All

I am going to Motorpoint in Peterborough tomorrow to buy a car subject to inspection.
Have paid the deposit.

The car is a Ford Fiesta 1.4 Zetec (Climate) 2008 reg
Car is coming from Jersey and has 2.5k miles on the clock.

I have a friend coming with me who will inspect the car, as they know lots about 'under the bonnet' and can help me with inspecting the interior and exterior of the car!

What I am looking for advice on is what questions I should be asking tomorrow!

Any help appreciated please!

WHAT you paid a deposit without seeing it, if you dont like it youve lost your money......

oh i c

yes the deposit is fully refundable should I not like the car, or think it is up to spec!

Checked that in terms and conditions, as no way would part with cash if knew it would be non refundable!

It's nearly a brand new car, you don't really need to ask much.
#5
I think the only q to ask is how much dosh discount they will give you!
#6
What is euro plates? as seen I have already been charged that on the paperwork - am I obliged to pay £25 for Europlates (whatever they are!)

Should I be asking whether the warranty is transferrable?

Also, because it only has 2.5k miles on the clock, it would not have had a service as yet - so do need to find out from them when service is due? as some have date deadlines (which I think commence from registration date date on V5) and some are mileage deadlines.

Warranty is transferable, yes. They won't know any better than you when the service is due other than data of the first reg or PDI at the dealer. The latter is probably best.
#9
PDI?

so what would be best to do once I get the car? Do I wait for the V5 and take it down to a ford dealership so that they can add it to their systems for warrany purposes?

Am a little confused on how I validate the warranty!

Post delivery inspection.

There won't be any issues with the warranty being transferred, it's normal with cars, don't worry :) From the horse's mouth:

How do you I transfer the warranty details to a new owner?
The Ford warranty applies to the vehicle and not the owner. Owner details can be changed by calling Ford Protect on 0870 241 6726.

Do they HPI the car? if not... https://www.mytextcheck.com/

Hi Pan

Yes there is a charge on the sales note for Preparation, HPI and PDI charge.

So if a PDiI is carried out then the service book will be stamped by motorpoint to reflect this ? Would this be classed as a first service which would validate the warranty? do I then send the V5 to a Ford dealer for them to log it?

Also, why does the cars registration not appear on any database that I am trying to get an insurance quote or check on?

No, a PDI of some form should have been done when the car was received (i.e. by the original dealer) when it was "brand new"; the PDI motorpoint mention is just trying to make them sound posh. The PDI at the original dealer will suggest when you should get your first service, or the registration date, but you could call Ford from the above link and ask them.

You do not need to give Ford anything to to get the warranty. The warranty is already validated, you only unvalidate it by not following the service requirements (etc.).

the porter
its your number plates with the euro sign on are motorpoint still doing that you dont have to have it and the prep charge is a rip off to dont have that either its just a hoover out and a wash for £80 odd quid

LOL..looks like they have already charged me for hald this stuff!

Have charge for:
Prep, HPI & PDI
Europlates

Of which I had no idea what they meant or whether I actually said yes to any of the two above.

Can they refuse the finance if i refused to pay for those two saying I did not want or ask for them?

They have included these costs in my final finance on the sales order.

OK..just put the reg number into the DVLA database and came back with the following:

Date of liability 01/01/2010
Date of first reg 02/01/2009 (thats 2.5k miles done in less than two weeks!!)
Year of manufacture 2008

will these help me at all? lol

Sorry, I am female, and having a blonde moment this evening! just need to be clear in my mind and be prepped for tomorrow, as dont want to get ripped off in any way!
#16
Those dates are often not correct - wait to see what the date of the first reg is tomorrow.

i don't know any specific motorpoint items, sorry. Personally I don't agree with stating one price and then charging another.

Thanks for all your help! Much appreciated! x

You might want to confirm you have both keys and any locking wheel nut key.

Would the vehicle be classed as an import if it is from Jersey?

If it is the insurance could be higher and some may refuse to insure at all.
#20
the most important question - 'how much cheaper can you do it for cash?'
#21
Jersey won't be an import, but the reg date is when it came into UK, not when it was first registered in Jersey. I might be wrong (because I've been out of the motor trade for nearly 20 years), but you might not get the full 3 year Ford warranty with this car. I'd check that.

You won't get much discount because margins at these supermarkets are small, but ask anyway. This was probably a hire car, so check for body damage too. I bet it will look like it's done more than 2.5k. These can still be cheap deals though, so don't let any of that put you off.

can i just ask a quick question? i know its crashing this forum but, i have agreed to buy a car from a friend who has a cyprus import nissan 100 nx, which was imported by reg vardy in 1997.i have tried my insurance company but they want a stupid amount for insurance, saying that it is classed as an import. also, thing is the 100 nx's stopped getting made in the uk in 1995! is there anyway around this? surely this is not classed as an import like a jap import??? any help really appreciated. cheers
