Berry's in Leeds.
Albion Street.

I've no idea where you are.

Would suggest Hatton Garden in Londonas there are a number of dealers (albeit generally connected) and a diamond exchange there as well.
If you are up for it there is some opportunity to barter.

Thanks guys, im in Oswestry, Shropshire so Leeds and London a bit out of the way for me. I was wondering if there were any good websites perhaps?

Still a little bit of a trek, but perhaps venture to the jewellery quarter Birmingham you will not be stuck for choice with the amount of jewellers and stone sellers.

Over 500 jewellery businesses.

Or if you did not want to venture that far, what about an independent jewellers in Welshpool?

Really think it might be worth your venture to Birmingham though where they are all fighting each other with prices for your trade.

Try Cool Diamonds. They are in Hatton Garden in London but you can order online.

I recommend Fraser Hart had really good experience with them and their jewellery is stunning.

A bit off topic but why not buy her one of these that you er she will much prefer

A gaming PC
A gaming laptop
A k6 series karcher
A boxer dog
A new galaxy note 4
A 48 box of monster munch - beef flavour obviously.

As Donna says about Fraser and Hart they are good (so are boxer dogs though)

Diamonds are a girl's best friend (though I do like my gadgets).... :D

I'm not sure that buying online is a good idea - normal jewellery I'd have no problem with but something as important as an engagement ring I'd want to see in person - stone size and quality are difficult to judge from a photo. Or, maybe I'm just getting old...:)

I wouldn't think buying on line to be a good idea unless you know exactly what you are looking for in the ways of clarity and colour etc. If you are near a local auction house that might be an idea as you get a lot more for your money than you would buying brand new and usually older jewellery is better made than most of the items available in the high street.

Do you have a rough budget in mind? As someone who works in the diamond business, I would advise to meet with someone who knows what they are talking about. Most jewellers are just in it for the sale and the average 400% mark up associated with diamond purchased at consumer level.
