Hi all

I am interesting in buying a Mac for home recording (music), and wondered if anybody has any advice.

Is buying direct best?

Thanks!

Heya!

You've come to the right place. I work for Apple as their Campus Rep @ Imperial College in London.

Macs are a good choice for audio recording/editing. All the new intel Macs come with optical audio input and output jacks, so you can preserve the best possible sound.

In addition, each mac comes with the basic GarageBand software, which should be enough to get you started till you turn into a pro

If you're a university student, the best deal would be direct. You can get 15-20% off all laptops/desktops direct from Apple. Read this other thread for more information: http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22482&highlight=higher+education

If you currently own a monitor and keyboard/mouse, the best option might be the Mac Mini (http://www.apple.com/uk/macmini/). . Its a small box that is powerful enough for most use, and it only costs about 300-400 for the base model.

PM me if you have more questions or need more help 8-)
