I would like to buy my daughter a digital camera for Christmas but do not know where to start. I have a Panasonic TZ65 but she says that something like that is too big and heavy. She wants something small and lightweight that she can carry around with her. It has to have rechargable batteries and take good, clear photos of people as most of her photos are of friends and end up on facebook.

I do not really want to spend a lot on it either, as she is quite accident prone and it either likely to lose it or drop it!

Can anyone offer any suggestions please? I notice that there are a number of special deals at places like Argos but which camera should I go for?

Thanks, I have just had a look and there are load of different models. Would you recommend anyone in particular?

You didn't mention your daughter's age, but if your daughter is likely to be taking lots of photos in low light (parties, concerts etc.) then it might be worth checking reviews for which cameras are better in low light. Most compact cameras are not too god in low light (obviously not too bad with the flash) but some are definitely better than others. I don't really know which ones to go for without going through loads of reviews which I can't atm (still in work - sssh, don't tell the boss!). But a quick google search for low ligh compact camera brought up a few interesting sites. I know the old Fuji F series was very well regarded for it's low light capabilities, but I don't really know about the newer ones.

Obviously if this isn't an issue then feel free to ignore this and I'll get back to work!

Thanks for your help Mike, I will certainly have a look on google. My daughter is 20 so yes, she will want to take photos at parties, concerts, in the pub etc. I am glad that I asked for help as it would not have occurred to me to think about lighting conditions,

Does your daughter like the colour pink?
Amazon have a nice pink ixus here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Canon-IXUS-105-Digital-Camera/dp/B00375N4LM/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1291399297&sr=8-5

Not a bad price for £95!
Other colours available if you type ixus into the search bar.

If that's too much, the Canon A3000 IS at £67 from Argos looks a good deal.
Not as solidly build as IXUS but good spec.
The Panasonic DMC-FP1 at £86 from a retailer on Ebay looks good too.
Image stabilisation on these is useful for keeping photos sharp in average light. Not loss-proof though. For that you need one of these :

The price is now £89.99 - I wonder if it will drop further??

I believe this is the camera to which Mike refers - its been superceded twice but the F80 and F300 are not nearly as good.

out of stock but you can still get them on Amazon.

Thanks - would you recommend this over the Canon IXUS 105?

has anyone actually got an ixus 105?
i was stuck between it and the Panasonic FS9 the other day - went with the FS9, but im not overly impressed. It had 5x zoom, compared to 4x on the ixus, and hd video.. those were the only differences i could see.
Just wondering if its worth swapping for the 105 - if the images would be better quality

Can anyone help please? Should I go for the Fuji FinePix F70EXR or for the Canon IXUS 105?

Thanks.
