I'm trying to use my amazon firestick on my laptop but it's not recognising it.

Do they not work via a laptop?

No, and it's nothing to do with the fact it is a laptop.

Most laptops only have a HDMI output. So it wont accept any inputs unless you have one which does.

Why would you want to? Anything you can access on the fire stick you can access on the internet anyway?

you can install kodi directly to a laptop without a firestick

Laptop's HDMI ports are for outputs only, so they can send a signal to a TV/monitor/projector. The Fire Stick goes into an input on a TV or similar. I can't really see why you'd want to use a Fire Stick on you laptop as it can access all the content online anyway. It's like putting some batteries in your plug socket to charge your phone when you can just use your plug socket to do it.
