you wont get a decent gaming pc for that sort of money really need to know what it is you are wanting to play as you maybe able to build something with a dedicated graphics card that will let you play basic 3d fx games
when building a pc you have to take into account a case, psu, motherboard, ram, hard drive,dvd-rom,processor,heat sink and fan and for gaming a decent graphics card.
you could build a mid range gaming pc for about £500 though

i agree with nightstud, but if you told us the games you wanted to play then we can tell you what price range itl cost you, as £300 could do you depending on the games you played.

i spent £700 on my pc its 2 years old now tho it doesnt seem old but it is when DDR3 is out so ima build a new pc and sell my parts.

cant comment on stalker but things like half life 2 (orange box games)
i played with ease on a pentium 4 with 2 gigs of ram and a decent agp graphics card which you will probs pick up on ebay for £100 or less and add a decent graphics card if it doesnt have one and it would play them fine.
or you could build something daul core for your £300 that would last you a bit longer if you want cheap that will just play the oldie games like half life my advice just buy a p4.

and forgot to say but you need an operating system also unless you have one that you havent used or can be used on more than 1 pc thats if you build new though.

if you do buy new this looks good to me
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-265-OK&tool=3
if you add the graphics card it comes to £312.36
but no operating system if you dont have it will be another £69.99 min taking it to £394.60
which isnt bad but for that you cold build better yourself from handpicked parts if your confident in self building.

its totally possible! just look for bargains on fleebay... your obviously gonna be using used parts with that budget. Recently built a Phenom 955 3.2ghz pc with a gigabyte motherboard, 2GB DDR3 Ram and a ATI 4850 for £300 plays most games maxed out. Also within that budget bought a 500gb HDD and a NZXT case.

well the processor, mobo and ram are too old to view on ebay now but : Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3P Mboard & 955 C3 BE CPU = £115 (came with heatsink and fan as they normally do!) + XFX 4850 PCIE RETAIL BOXED 1GB DDR3 Memory = £58, £35 for 2gb DDR3 RAM. £28 for NZXT Case via micro direct along with the optical drive for £15. Got a 450w crappy psu for £10 from a local pc shop and the HDD i bought from here for £25 odd pounds and then i spent £33 on a copy of windows 7 (im a student).
You can check my ebay feedback if you still dont believe me but it doesnt show prices or anything anymore.... (dan-fish)

if there too old too view now then its pointless dont you think. as you cant get it not having a go, as like i said would loved to of bought that setup for that price. but as its "unavalible" then its not really worth posting.
as that processor is £100 plus on ebuyer and an operating system is £70+ i think it leaves you a lil shy nice and lucky find for yourself though if it comes up again please pm me ill buy it straight out.

ok then mate things you can no longer get hold of unless your real lucky is worth pointing out +1 to you top man
not to mention that the games the op wants to play could easily run on a p4 whats the need of that sorta setup to play half life really?

It's easy, everything pretty much only fits in one slot. Also if you can go upto £400 it will be much better.

i went onto the hexus forums and got great build thanks to one of there members made my budget to 350 and this is wat i got. http://forums.hexus.net/hexus-hardware/194033-help-me-build-buy-built-gaming-pc-tight-budget.html#post1999228
wat do you think of that?
#17
dcx, would this psu work well enough with that motherboard http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/prods/components/powersupplies/novatech/nov-psu750.html
i reckon it will as both seem to be compatible with each other on the 24 pin + 4 pin connections?

I disagree with most posts on this forum. If you only need the computer tower (no monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers etc), then you can build a gaming system for £300 which will handle the latest games with ease on AT LEAST medium settings, but most will be on high. If you want some help putting one together then pm me
