I am in the process of sending one a letter to Trading Standards about "The Fragrance Shop"....

I have placed several orders with them over the past year, yet every time I receive a fragrance, there are problems with them.

For example, the Chanel Bleu is weak (EDT and EDP), on several others I've ordered, the spray mechanism is faulty and instead of getting a mist, you get a jet of fragrance.

I have collated all my findings and will be sending to Trading Standards, but I was just wondering if anyone here has had similar issues with buying fragrances from them.

I just have this feeling something is not right about the products they are selling.
Any feedback would be appreciated.

Do you mean the high street chain ?

If so I'd say they are usually reliable, with 176 stores nationwide, any reason why you wouldn't just return the perfume if you had an issue, or are you talking about a company with a similar name?
Also if you are doubtful that a perfume is genuine, you can phone the customer relations dept of the perfume maker who can match the codes on the packaging to tell you if they are genuine and when and where it was produced. I did this with Lancôme after purchasing a bottle of Tresor online, they were really helpful. It turned out the on line supplier I had used was genuine . Lancôme confirmed all the packaging was correct in my case , so that may be worth a try . The company I had used purchased all their fargrances from businesses that had overstocked or that were closing down, it meant you couldn't guarantee it had been stored correctly but in my case all was fine.

You don't just decide after one order do you, you only start to notice a pattern emerge after a couple of orders.
Either way I won't be buying from them again and have contacted TS to see what they find

Hi Sharpfarp

I know how infuriating things like this can be, i am angry just thinking about it. Dont bother contacting their customer relations dept. They are there to maintain the image of that company. You want an independent, non biased organisation to investigate. Its like asking the House of Lords to pass judgement on the house of commons.
I know if it was me i would write to them in a polite manner, the letter they write back is the one that will be their downfall cos they dont know what you are going to do, they think they have palmed you off by offering say 3 bottles of their eau de cologne. Next i would get an independent examination ( dont worry about the cost you will get it back when you win your case ).If the independent examination agrees with what you have been saying all along then you have several options. 1. write requesting compensation. 2.Take them to court.
3. combination of 1) and 2), 4. Go online and let everyone know as well as getting it printed in your local or national paper. N.B a good solicitor will squeeze every once of urine out of them as well as getting a public apology and compensation out of them.

Good luck , they wont do it again once you have finished with them.

Hi Rednira and Sharpsharp

Wouldnt you use this toilette de cologne if women were hanging onto you like flies on honey? of course you would, infact you would buy a shed load of it and sell it at your local carboot sale or marketstall so dont be too harsh on him.
P.S there is an old saying that people in Kazasthan use, roughly translated it means " The person who has never made a mistake in their life has yet to be born"

they will be buying direct from the manufacturer so seems odd that you get a sealed box and have so many issues. If they are the same product try and email to the manufacturer they height have had a bad batch spray parts. Trading standards probably won't do anything so try the manufacturer first. If you don't like their response send an email to their chief executive find the emails address on ceo emails.

If you are having the same issue across many manufacturers if could be down to the way you are using it :(

Thanks for all your replies, I'll follow-up with some of your suggestions.

Although the items are sealed as new and perhaps sent directly from the manufacturer, it's not unknown for online retailers to strike a favourable deal with them to send seconds or items that do not pass Quality Controls.
In the meanwhile, buyers are left non the wiser or just put up with these imperfections.

Bottom line is, if you're spending £50+ on a fragrance, if the pump is faulty, it makes you wonder whether the fragrance itself is also tainted.... Either way, I've had too many issues with them to let it go unnoticed.

Trust me they won't be seconds unless they are from one of the smaller manufacturer and even seconds from the big companies are just the same as the normal ones just labels in wrong places or line over runs. Plus they aren't what you would call a small company as well their annual turnover is over £100 million. We have had pumps go on perfum before so it's not uncommon and think about likes of kitchen sprays you always get some that can go. Take it up with the manufacturer, you will probably get a replacement spray and maybe some voucher.
