Australian Penfold's RWT or Grange :p

Seriously Australia produce some fantastic affordable full bodied Shiraz (Syrah) or blends such as Penfold's Koonunga Hill Shiraz / Cabernet £9.99 (£6.99 currently at Morrisions), or D'arenberg Shiraz Dead Arm (£13.99). If you are looking for a good drinkable Shiraz look at Jacob's Creek Reserve Shiraz Australia (£6 currently at ASDA) is excellent value. Remember spend at least £7 (Roughly £3 is duty) on a bottle and you can't go wrong.

Wolf Blass

I second Jacob's Creek. Nice affordable wine and widely available in almost any store.

Again you won't go wrong with Yellow Tail or Wolf Blass but it would be Jacobs Creek for me personally.

Australia for the last couple of years have overproduced, but the Supermarkets have failed to pass on the quality wines. Instead they're substituted and sold the lowest quality Wolf Blass red label for the same price as the yellow label wines. Their affordable premium wines such as the Wolf Blass Presidents Selection that once was easily available is now difficult to find, as the Supermarkets have reduced their wine lines.

Everyone's taste is different, but if I didn't know better I would think some of the suggestions above are trying to scupper your romance before it has even started. The D'Arenberg and WB Yellow Label (definitely not Yellow Tail) are acceptable. There is a really nice Houghton Shiraz / Cabernet Sauvignon blend from Western Australia as another suggestion. Usually £9.99, but sometimes can be £7.50 at Tesco or Morrisons.
