Like the above, a bridge camera, seems a good deal with 2 years warranty.

pixels aint everything .......... its the lens your looking for the one above is great option fuji finefix has good lens
***S on any compact camera

above that i would save nikon d40 second hand then add new lens
have a look at this review i know its usa but nice review also shows you the lens you can add if your serious about getting into photography

This is very true statement that pixels are not everything, in fact unless you intend doing very large prints, you don't need anymore than a 4-5mp camera for standard 6x4 prints. The most important aspect of any camera is the lens quality (it is after all the seeing eye) and the ccd sensor (the chipset that captures the image).

I think that the OP needs to weigh up whether they want a fixed lens bridge camera as I have posted, or as you have stated something like a entry level DSLR such as the Sony A200 (which I have) or as you state the Nikon D40.

my view with the fuji is its and slr style camera good proper wide lens with the ease of a compact camera oh and dont be fooled the amount of aa's required for the fuji 4 aa it lasts around the 300 shot mark with the screen running
go and waste some time at jessops theyll let you play with em

Fuji S8000FD for £144.66 incl delivery would appear to tick all the boxes. Here it is http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000UUHL2K/
