Can someone recommend a red wine please?

Hi, I want to buy a bottle of red wine for someone but as I don't drink at all, I wonder if someone would be so kind as to recommend a decent bottle within the £10 range if possible? Thanks Read More

La Moneda reserva Malbec from asda won best in show last year at Decanter event and a platinum award... That's well under a tenner too.

Thanks, I'll check that one out too. It was just that I once heard someone say some red wines taste like vinegar? (Im guessing this is the very cheap ones?) Didn't want to insult her with one that tastes vile. Thanks again

Just checked, and on Asda's website it says £5.98 so I'm gonna go for that one. If she doesn't like it, I'll point in your direction and she can take it up with you!:D Thanks for all of your help, have a lovely afternoon

I know, I understand it depends on the individual's taste, I'm sure that it'll be fine. Thanks

casillero del diablo cabernet sauvignon = £6.50 at tescos just now

I like and keep coming back to this. I'm not a big drinker and when I try something else (usually end up picking up vinegary ones) I always come back to this.

Thanks. That's why I asked for advice, I didn't want to choose one which tasted "vinegary"

And like red wine.

Hope that helps X)

It's ok but not special, it's a good easy drinking wine but if he's got a tenner to spend personally I'd go for something a bit better like the suggestion above from Lidl.

I'd probably go French or Chillean, but would sway more towards French.

Don't go too heavy, so no Riojas etc.

Cab sav is a good call for an easy drinking wine that works as an aperitif as well as to accompany food, but I find it can be a little lacking at times.

Malbec is also a good call, there are some good Malbecs around at the moment.

I'd be tempted to look at a Cotes du Rhone if that lidl one isn't available.

Wine is very personal.

I'd always go with Pinot Noir as the best grape in general. most things £10+ will be nice. Burgundy as the lidl suggestion or lots of good from New Zealand/ california.

You will get a good deal in Lidls.

Hardy's Stamp Cabernet Merlot 2016 - love good red wine though do not drink much. Just got a bottle of that from a friend and it was truly worth drinking.
Will consider stocking up actually. Its one with a purple lable design.

Also you could not go wrong with Merlot from Gallo Family Vinyards, if you want it not too dry and watery ;-)
