I do not recommend this enclosure any more... There is forced encryption that appears after the drive is in use for a little while... This cannot be turned off, if your enclosure fails (not the drives), you will NOT have access to your files for recovery... The drives are encrypted and are not recognized outside of this enclosure... It has been confirmed here: https://community.wd.com/t/wd-my-book...."https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Htrt0iH9QU

Following the link it's clear that he's only talking about data encryption and nothing that would render the drives 'not recognised' or anything like that.

If you wanted to preserve the data on the drives then it would be a big problem. If you're going to grab the drives empty and start afresh it's no issue at all.

I don't see why they wouldn't work. I took the drive out of a My Book 3TB for my NAS and it's been working fine

Just over a month ago I purchased 2 x 12tb My Book Duo. Both had 2 x 6tb Red drives in them. They are now installed in my QNAP NAS and working fine.
