Always get a cooling off period, mine did this to me last year even though I opted out...turns out when I got another quote they were the cheapest...and the new quote was cheaper than the renewal that they charged me...scamming gits.

You do get a 14 day cooling off period but they can still charge 'a reasonable cost' due to the admin required etc.

Find a cheaper price using a comparison site and then call them up to cancel within the next few days... in my experience they usually bend over backwards to keep you. Mine somehow knocked 20% off their renewal price last year after I threatened to leave, toe rags!

Find this irritating, like you I found the best deal elsewhere wasted forty minutes on various sites and when I rang them to cancel the auto renewal she just agreed to beat it straight away. Five hundred quid difference between the auto renewal quote and the actual cost in the end.

Same here, quote as new customer with Cooperative was a lot cheaper than my renewal with them. They dropped it but besides the point, they make out on renewal its their best offer when it's not. Yes scamming gits!!!!

I didn't realise my home insurance was on auto renewal. i brought another policy and then got a letter saying they were sending debt collectors out because I hadn't paid. i didn't even know I was on auto renew. Always read the small print I guess!

Most insurers automatically renew incase someone is truly forgetful, what if they were unknowingly uninsured? But yes, they take the p**s at renewal on the hope some people wont bother to shop round. I've never had a renewal quote less than the previous year, usually £200 or so more expensive. 10 mins on the phone and its back down.

Said it before and I'll say it again, insurers are the biggest scam artists in the world.
