Caribbean/Dom Rep/Cancun??

Hi guys,

Hope some of you can help.

I'm thinking of taking the girlfriend away for a special holiday as she deserves it.
She has 3 kids and before she met me, had only ever been abroad to Turkey once, (when she was 15).
We are going to Cyprus in August and taking all our kids away for the 1st time so this holiday probably won't be till next year.
What i'd like to know is where would you recommend?

I myself have stayed at the Iberostar Hacienda Dominicus in Bayahibe in the Dom Rep which was heaven (but it was with my ex and my current girlfriend doesn't want to go there which i can understand).
So, where else is good.
Maybe another Iberostar?
Where have you been and what were your experiences?

I'd like somewhere possibly in the caribbean, just has to be heaven (on a budget lol).
Has to be hot, all inclusive and on the beach would be good.
What is the best time of the year to go somewhere like that?
I went in september and it did rain but only for a couple of hours or so.
Would it be possible to get somewhere for under £1000 for 2 weeks?

Love to hear your stories and recommendations.

Cheers

Done both twice a year mate for the last 6 years..

If you want lively then its cancun if you want peace and quiet and afar better service all round then try the riveria maya , your still a taxi trip from the shopping at playacar.....trips to exhal ect...

The dominican on the caribbean side is far better ie..punta cana better hotels and better beaches but your somewhat limited to within the resort compared to mexico..

There are some excellent deals just now noth on First choice and Thomsons and as of last week Portland are now on the same system as the 2 above.

Hotels....try tripadvisor prior to booking but in all honestly regardless of service or standard you cant please everyone...If you require further info drop me a pm.

Thanks guiys Rep'd :)

I've never been to Mexico.
Is it ok with the swine flu lol.

Not too bothered about going out of the resort (for nightlife) but want the actual resort to be spot on so sounds like punta cana might be a good bet.
What hotels have you stayed in there and recommend?
Would like to go out for some good day trips though.
When i went to dom rep last time, we went out for a day trip and went on a £3 million yacht, speedboat and catamaran. It was just brilliant!

Is it the north or south of the island that is better in the dom rep?
What is the best time of year to go?

Thanks again :)

We stayed in Cancun - Moon Palace Hotel on our honeymoon and it was beautiful. We had a Jacuzzi actually in our room, (seperate from the stunning shower room ensuite). And rose petals were scattered around the room, towels were made in shapes of swans - lots of little touches. In a way, a bit tacky - bit too perfect, but I still loved it. The moon Palace has 7 sister hotels that you can use too (you can pick up the hotel mini bus and it will drop you off) so u have loads more choices of resterants and pools.
The only downside was that the sea infront of the hotel (hotels, litterally on beach) wasn't pure blue/clear due to a coral reef that runs along the length of the hotel but still fine to swim in and the other hotels had perfect clear waters.

The south of the Dominican is far better....hotels I would go for include the Iberostar, Riu Palace Macao or the Grand Palladium Palace and Royal Suites Turquesa

Much will depend on the time and departure airport.
