With such a low budget the Lumia you suggested would probably be your best bet, a £40 android is going to be a pretty terrible experience.

As long as your only using it for calls, texts, checking the news/weather the lumia will serve you well, camera is reasonable for the money too.

I have had a few different phones due to budget but seems workable there was a few on o2 clearance but a lot of android ones seem terrible for under £100

I would not get a microsoft phone. Mine has gone wrong whilst in warranty and they use a third party called B2X to repair phones but they just send them back with a list 6 reasons why they will not repair it. None of which apply to my phone, I have been trying to sort this out with microsoft since October and they just keep fobbing me off. My case has now been escalated for a third time and I've been told they will get back to me in 10 working days. My phone will probably need to be sent to B2X again so I'm probably looking at March (so 6 months) before I get it back and probably will just get the same generic letter. It's worth paying more and not buying a microsoft phone. Their customer service are useless.

Isn't the Lumia 550 around £80 inc top-up from CPW? Would be unlocked though. o2 will shift you a "perfect like new" 550 at under £40. Reasonably sure Tesco network uses o2 so may not need an unlock, otherwise unlock around £6 via the bay.

issue them with a writ for the full cost of replacement plus any expenses you've had. will get their attention especially if there's the possibility of a judge becoming involved. it's fairly easy to do

I'll see what happens in the next 10 days and if I do not get a satisfactory conclusion I will do just that. Thank you for your advice.

I will be honest and tell you I have had Motorolas for years and I have never had to contact customer service , the Moto 3 is a cracking little phone for the price

I've also had Motorola's for years and not had to contact customer service. And then I did and now will never buy from them again as they have been awful. Some people are of the opinion that their products/service have deteriorated since they were taken over by Lenovo.
