Hi all, i am looking to get a CCTV system installed, i was looking at an IP camera and an NVR.

Does anyone have any recommendations? I have looked at the HIKVISION but they seem to be rather expensive, but not sure if i should get a camera from them and get an nvr from elsewhere.

Also, is there a recommended way of setting up the cabling and will any type of network cable work.

thanks in advance.

I have a hikvision set up, like you say not the cheapest but unbelievable quality if you go for the 3mp cameras you won't be disappointed. I was struggling to make my mind up due to the cost, especially when you go to maplins and see their setups for a reasonable price but if you can see the hikvision footage it's very impressive. I mounted mine under the soffits as high as possible to make them tamper proof and they are fantastic images at that height. I just used normal cat 5e cabling through the loft never had any issues they have been installed about 7 months or so now very very happy with them. All the cameras look good on the TV when they are installed but it's if and when you need them you may regret not paying that extra they really are great quality. Hope this helps in some way.
