I currently have Central Heating Cover with British Gas. Just had my renewal through and they charging about £31 per month. That is for there Homecare 200 Cover without excess. I have been on a comparison webb site and see that there are a number of companies which offer this service which are all cheaper. Wanted to know what the service are like. How long do they take to come out. With British Gas, they normally come out next day. Don't mind paying an excess.

I looked around but couldn't find anything reliable so I have stayed with British Gas.

Same here. I pay about £12 per month with an excess but that includes an annual service. I would like to self insure but I'm wary after needing a call out over the Christmas period and British Gas were prompt and reliable. Reviews of some other companies were a bit concerning.

I am with Domestic and General they use local approved plumbers so its pot luck you may get a bad person but on the whole it seems they all only have basic training and stumble on fault finding all have clauses on Lime scale get outs so will not fix any issues relating to it unless someone knows a company who cover

SSE Shield Gas Boiler Cover has up to £70 cashback at Quidco.

Self insure, 20 quid a month = £240 a year. A service for £60 and you're left with £180 a year.

90% of my breakdowns cost less than £180 to fix. Save for 10 years and you can buy a new Intergas boiler complete with 10 year warranty.... or just go on a decent holiday.

I took mine out with my home insurance with Churchill, has cost me £1.06 pa for the past 2 years. Might be worth seeing what your provider would charge if you have home insurance?

I think I pay around £23 for British Gas but that is the complete cover inc electrics etc with £50 excess and includes an annual service. Proven to be very reliable over the years. I reported a fault last Friday at 9pm and it was fixed by midday on Saturday.

^^^^ This and consider home insurance which includes home emergency cover

e.g. Sheilas wheels offer £500 cover with no excess. Used them 3 times over the last 4 years and every time a plumber arrived the next working day and repaired the heating system. No increase in premiums as it doesnt count as a claim.

I've seen there are a number of companies offering central heating cover. Homeserve, SSE, 24hr Rescue. Was wondering how long it takes for someone to come out. With British Gas they were out next day. how dose the service they offer compare

CAlled British Gas homecare team. They offered me a 12 month deal with £50 excess for £16.52 per month. Decided to stick with them for next 12 months. based on previous experience with them there call out time was next day and always managed to fix the problem following day.
