Charged 30p for wrong digit on O2

My mum dialled 074523 instead of 074533 and got charged 30p as this is not a recognised STD code, otherwise nothing as she is on unlimited minutes plan.

It only lasted 15 seconds so I guess it did not connect, being the wrong number. I know that mobile operators charge whether the call connects or not so is this right?

Should be charged for putting in one digit wrong and the call did not connect?

If it did not connect it would not show up.

are you sure about this?

If you call a number and there is no answer that does not show up on your bills.
If you call a number and it goes through to voicemail or hang up after they pick it up, your bill will show that call even if it's for a few seconds.
At least that's how my billing works.
I presume yours/mums is the same.

Are you sure she did not call voicemail?
I'm on ee and they charge for voicemail calls and it's usually about 30p :o(

i can see the 2 numbers one after the other. The second one is exactly as the first one but with 07953 instead of 07952 so she dialled the wrong number. the second number was free as it was within her inclusive minutes.

How would the network know if she called the wrong number?, If its chargeable then they will charge her

she doesn't get charged for 074533 but does for 074523

anyone knows if this is a special number by O2? I can't determine if it is from their special number list.

There are some Mobile Networks, that use VOIP setup rather than normal Mobile. Those are numbers which are charged.

It does mention on O2 website that non standard mobiles will be charged.

There is no way to know beforehand which will be charged.

In this case a little internet digging reveals that 07452 is an Isle of Man mobile number, and apparently no UK network includes those in their free minutes bundles.

The Isle of Man and the Channel Islands are not part of the UK - they are abroad for all purposes.

07452 belongs to Manx Telecom which is not in the UK.

do you know which network provider 07453 belongs to as that was allowed within her inclusive minutes.

07453 numbers are for mobile phones in the United Kingdom.

All UK 07 numbers are for mobiles, pagers and personal numbering.

Which network is 07453?
07453 numbers are allocated to Three.

Although these numbers are issued to this operator, customers are free to take their number with them when they change networks. The 07453 prefix is not a reliable indicator of which network a phone is currently connected to, only which network issued it originally.

Formatting an 07453 number
There is no set format for UK mobile phone numbers, but the commonest format is: 07453 xxxxxx

For international callers, use: +44 7453 xxxxxx
