Hi I'm trying to find some car Insurance for my brother. He's 18 and has had his licence for 6 months and has that pass plus thing which is supposed to make it cheaper. His car is a 1.4 Nova, yep he's gonna be a boy racer!
I've looked in the usual places such as confused and moneysupermarket but the best I can find is around £1500 which he can't afford.
Anyone know any sites which might be cheaper?

Try Liverpool Victoria, they are quite reasonable.

Try here for a quote....

Money Supermarket

They will find you a cheap quote.

It's a long time since I was 18, but I drive a powerful car and they always find the best quote for me.

CJ

EDIT: Oops! Just noticed that you've tried them already!

Thanks for the advice, just tried CIS and they came up with £2996, Liverpool Victoria quoted £1988!
Shocking!
I'll keep searching~!

Endsleigh do great student insurance

Your best off getting it under your parents name even though they wont drive it often. For the first two or three years its better that way, i've been driving for 6 years now still under my dad's name thats only because i've always driven an insanely big car.

endsleigh and Tesco have handled mine for a good few years now, I'm 21 and it's gone considerably down by "lying"

Oh Endsleigh you're gonna give me it for 1000? Well Tesco said they'd do it for 700, oh you can do it for 675 now? I'll take it

It works!

As Bairn_O_Falkirk is almost saying. Be persistent with each company you contact, they'll more often than not, try to beat a competitors offer. The annoying part is how much they originally state even if you've been a loyal customer.

Also go through QuidCo for cashback if the company you choose is on there.

i'm 23, went with CIS, then tesco, then churchill, then tesco (never repeat same provider..)

Just recently, through quidco, I went with Prudential. They quoted about £20 more than Tesco's renewal, but in September they'll give me a nice £100 cashback, meaning that they actually beat Tesco's by £80 in total.

Good luck.. remember it's always good to have your own policy as you get to accrue the no-claims bonus. I've now got over 5 years, so I have it protected..

I envy you SO MUCH polak!

I have found CIS to be cheapest if the young person is driving on someone else's policy, and Tesco if the young person wants the insurance in their own name.

good deals to be had at academy insurance. alternatively, if you have money, some dealers will sell you a car with a year's free insurance (well, written into the price of the car).

who are the ones with the red phone? it's probably old news but I only found out recently that any named driver on the policy will gain on their no claims

Those comparison sites are really worth doing (I'd use all 3 mentioned in this article). I found this year that Quinn-Direct was cheapest, but last year it was HSBC Doric...
