Cheap Freesat HD box?

Hi,
Not much of a TV person myself so I thought I better ask here - looking for a Freesat HD box [receiver is ok, no need for a recorder really] that I would be able to hook up to my home network [cable or wi-fi] and watch movies from NAS. Had a look at Humax models but they all look expensive, are there cheaper alternatives at all?
Cheers,
P

You might be better at looking at two different boxes to be honest. The Manhattan Freesat HD boxes are very good. Have you considered just buying a second hand Amstrad DRX595, which is just a sky multiroom box? I picked one up with all cables and remote in as new condition for under £20 on eBay for freesat from sky. I honestly have no idea why you would buy a freesat box when sky boxes are so cheap second hand and are very smooth. Then just buy a WD TV Live or something similar, which will cost you about £50. I have one and it plays absolutely every file type.

Hmm, so I can get a Sky+ HD box off Ebay and be able to watch Freesat Sky with no subscription [I've already got a dish and 2 cables sticking out from the floor to connect it to so this should be nice and easy [and a lot cheaper]]. Didn't realise that to be honest, this looks like a very good idea now :)

Thanks very much for your input.

Can you clarify if I would need a viewing card to watch HD channels [or any channels at all]? Never been a Sky user myself.

You don't need a card to watch the free channels, but the recording facility won't work without a subscription

If you buy a box it will come with the original viewing card, well all the ones I bought still had their original card in. If you don't have a card I think you can pickup some channels, if you have a card you get slightly more channels than standard freesat.

The reason I say go and get the multiroom box is because there is no point getting a sky+ box because you can't use any of the recording features without a subscription. The box I mentioned is small, quiter and does dolby 5.1 sound.

OK, bought the multiroom box off Ebay so hopefully this will suit my basic TV needs :) Thanks very much for your help!
