Cheap holidays for attending timeshare etc presentations

A couple of times now, Ive been offered deals along the lines of:

7 nights in Barbados/Mallorca/Siciliy etc (flights excluded) at a 5* all inclusive hotel for only £150. Just attend two short presentations explaining the benefits of timeshares etc.

I.e. they subsidise/discount heavily your stay for the opportunity of giving you the hard sell on investing when youre all happy because of the sun and a few extra pina coladas.

Has anyone been offered similar deals? Anyone have any experience of going on one of these discounted holidays? How easy is it to actually wriggle out of what they are trying to get you to buy? And does anyone know where i can find some of these?

Thanks!

My brother went to a presentation, they gave him a small free tv and there was no obligation to buy / sign anything, all they ask is you stay for the whole presentation. His accomodation was free and had to pay the rest hmself. Not bad i suppose.

If you are prepared to go to the presentations and resist the hard sell,if you are prepared to take the holiday and put up with constantly being pestered throughout your stay and willing to sit in further presentations whilst on holiday and can still resist the hard sell, then and only then may you think this a good idea!

I am not against timeshare(or holiday ownership as it is now called) at all.It is great for those who wish to go to the same place each year(or don't mind paying a bit extra to swap accommodation for a different location). The places are usually very nice, good quality accommodation.

If you go along just for the free holiday though, you may get sick of the sales agents being in your face, and it may not feel like a holiday at all.

Came accross this yesterday, but you need an AMEX card. Looks great, only 3 days so ideal for a short break & you get the hire car for free. Doesn't mention flights, so you may have to pay separately for those.

Here's Marriot's site & the rooms are pretty cheap for 5* this is due to construction work

That Marriot one was the first one i ever saw, sounds good to me. Gonna see about availablitly - ive got quite a thick skin and to be honest i think id find their efforts to sell me something quite funny! can always drive away in the free hire car i guess!

Anyone else seen similar ones?

The sell isn't hard to resist - I had a weekend break in cornwall for £60 which was a gorgeous chalet for me and t'other half, we've also gone to another one recently and got £70 of theatre tickets plus a holiday for six in tenerife for about £100 each (Would have been £30 each if only 4 going but the additional two were £200 each), haven't gone yet but looking forward to it!

Its not just about saying NO - they will just keep going on until you explicitly get up to leave. We had to stay for two hours to get everything, so we left at 2:01 exactly and she ripped it all up in front of us and said we could never get this opportunity again.

I told her it was a bl**dy stupid company if we didn't have the option to buy again at a later date and she didn't have a lot to say to that...

Cheers,

S
