Are you swapping a 12 yr old girl for a laptop?

Although that's good I'd say this one is worth the extra for a larger screen and more storage - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/146924 . But that's just my opinion ! :-D

It's a good idea, but I believe that the curriculum tends to follow the Microsoft route, sadly, so you'd be looking for something with XP at the minimum, and possibly Vista.

My 12 year old girl requires the use of a computer now and again, but she never has to, nor would we let her, take a laptop to school. At that age, it's far too easy for them to lose it, break it, or have it wilfully damaged by others.

I'd recommend any of the WinXP netbooks, such as the Asus 901, Acer Aspire One or Advent 4211 if you ever envisage her moving it around as a proper 15" laptop, especially in the budget range will be horribly heavy to carry for any length of time.

Perhaps if you let us know how you imagine she will be using it then we can help further.

Hi, thanks all... at this moment in time I would think that she will just have the laptop in her bedroom.

went to a mate's house yesterday and he's bought a laptop for his mrs .It was from a supermarket , either Asda or Tesco . It's an ACER and was about £240 or £260 running Vista and it's a corker of a machine . Excellent screen quality too . Has wi-fi and the usual things .Check out some of the supermarket deals at the moment .
