What about this one http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/420261/western-digital-my-book-elements-25/ Note, this would require you to also connect it to a mains socket for power.

Otherwise I normally just got to ebuyer.com, good price and have customer reviews.
Here is one from Ebuyer which is USB powered http://www.ebuyer.com/product/148372

Just to note 20-40gig is very small for a external hard drive, you can even get memory sticks that are this size (32GB)

sorry to sort of hijack your thread.

but are all external hd's powered from the mains ? I'm in the similiar postion as the OP but wondered if they can just be powered via the usb socket ? as i'd like a plug 'n go hd without the hassle of having too keep plugging it into the mains.

Depends on the hard drive, yes some can be powered just by the usb

At that price and 7,200RPM that'll likely to be a desktop mains powered one rather than a portable usb powered one.

I did realise this but your correct to point out as i now think the original post may just want a USB powered hard drive. I will edit my 1st post.
