. First of all, is thorpe park good? never been there and am going to London this weekend and was hoping to take the kids there. If so, any cheap tickets going?

Also, are there any other parks or places that kids would enjoy in London?

Hello
About 5 years ago I swapped a load of Tesco Clubcard vouchers for annual Madame Tussaud passes - which includs Thorpe park and Chessington WoA. The deal at the time worked out that you were quids in after just 2 visits - not sure what it is today.
Saved queueing up as well! e.g. went to the waxworks in London and queue was over 45 minutes long, and we got whisked to the VIP entrance. Scruffiest VIPs ever probably.

I used to work at Thorpe Park. It was bought out by the Tussauds Group in 1998 (who own Alton Towers, Chessington World of Aventures and Madam Tussauds, amongst others).

It used to be the case that, for the south of England at least, CWoA was the grown up / teenager park and TP was the kids park. Tussauds have since repositioned the two parks, with TP offering the better thrills these days.

TP's features (off the top of my head)

Europes longest log flume - fun on a sunny day

europes tallest water ride - again, fun on a sunny day. usually a long queue, and all it does it go up and then down very very quickly.

the world's most loopy rollercoaster - this was being built when i was working there. reviews are excellent - not for the faint hearted

backwards rollercoaster in the dark - in my view naff, gives you a neck ache

Pirates 4-D show - this is excellent, good fun for all the family. i used to know the words to the script, i saw it that much! Basically, its a cinema with "added effects" - not to give too much away, but things like your chair vibrating.

Plus lots of the usual rubbish rides. i would recommend not going on the teacups or the dodgems - usually run by 1 person who is put on that ride all day = 1 grumpy operator.

flying fish = probably europe's only rollercoaster. it's also the only coaster that still has a speed dial (most have just go and stop buttons). oldie but a goldie.
